Rumors are that Hank would have done that deal but Cashman said no. Gutsy move by Cashman. The GM looking to keep the job would have said Mattingly and trade the farm for Johan. Cashman sticking with Girardi and the kids. I like it. I hope it pans out because we need him to stick around. -Jitpal

I have lost all respect for Cashman if he actually denied that trade. I think Cashman is smarter than that.

Wow, that's a lot of faith in Hughes.

How much do you want to bet Yankee fans turn on Hughes during the first sign of trouble? As much as Yankee fans want to preach patience with young prospects, their actions say otherwise.

This trade is such a no-brainer.

Marquez is a pretty good young hurler. Hes got a good fast ball. i saw him pitch a few times this year and he hit 94 with it and struck out like 9/10 batters in the game.

i really wanna keep hughes, but a part of me suddenly feels this is gonna be a mistake specially if he goes to the sox....

I'm very leery of giving up Phil Hughes, but if I had to, the only person I can understand if he was traded for is Johan. Either way, once this is all over, if its Johan or Hughes in Pinstripes, their jersey will be mine :)

The Twins are stuck. They are looking for other teams cause they don't want to take the Red Sox offer and I really don't think the Red Sox really want to make the trade. I think Cashman is hoping for the Twins to come back and take Kennedy and company.

Some of you need to relax a little. Boston hasn't completed a trade and the Twins have nothing of value on the table. If no one wants to pay the money, that leaves the Yankees. I think in a couple of weeks, probably right before Christmas, Cashman goes to Smith and offers up a Kennedy package. He tells the Twins that there are no games, you take this package or no deal. If the market is that barren, I think he has to take it because they have no shot at competing in the AL Central. Bill Smith played this horribly and if he wants to get anything out of it, I think he would have to do this. Let's see what happens though. -Jitpal

Smith has played this beautifully. He's using the media to try to jack up the price on other guys. Stalling, leaking false stories of guys being involved. He has a very small market for the best pitcher in baseball, which is beyond comprehension, and he is using every little piece he can come up with to try to pressure someone into a deal. Unfortunately, no one wants to give up the next Kazmir. They are hoping that someone blinks and no one has yet so the best thing to do is to continue this stalling technique. Make their rounds to see if the Angels or Dodgers can top the Sox.

The Kennedy deal won't get it done. The Twins really like Lester and they really like Hagadone and they don't like Melky. The Hughes trade could get it done but they already like the Sox current B package more, they aren't going to take the Yankees B package. But, like I said, no one wants to give up the next Kazmir. If the rumor on the first post in true, the Yankees don't seem willing to give up Hughes. The Twins are stalling to see if anyone can up the Sox offer and if no one can, they'll have to decide on taking the deal or sitting on Santana. mahalo

The twins don't want what the sox have unless it is ellsbury and lester and nothing less, and why not. Lester heading a package is no where close to what hughes could give them...

Again, don't deal out of fear, or what other teams are doing, Make the best deal for yourself... right now let santana stay in minny.. we will keep our kids and roll with that.. some of you seem like you just want to see this trade to have something new to talk about..... I want to go young with these kids...

Word out of Nashville is the Twins are leaving with Santana. They aren't getting wowed by any offers and it makes sense to take him off the block for a week to see if anyone blinks. My guess is no one will and they will have to settle for 50 cents on the dollar. mahalo

No, they'll settle for 100 cents on the dollar instead of 150.

Is not acquiring the best pitcher in baseball - in his prime- for a reasonable package really something that Cashman should be commended for NOT doing?

Our ultimate goal should be to win games, not to have our entire team come from the farm system.
