While his jumpshot is far from perfect, I think with more repetition he can build on this a league average accuracy 3pt shot

Re: The Official Jaylen Clark Thread
I don’t see much hope of him being a 37% 3pt shooter.
I’d knock 10% off that…

So TC drafted Ausar caliber defender with better 3pt shot at 53rd pick?!
No, Clark has no range (he looked really bad in Summer League) and while Ausar struggled from three point land in his first NBA career, he has a much higher ceiling. Note, that he was a 33 percent outside shooter in Elite play but he rebounds a ton and plays great defense and has better size and athleticism. There was a reason he was an early lottery pick.

Unfortunately he just fell way farther down the depth-chart...

I think situation might change for him very quickly. MIN have added DDV, but NAW is UFA next off-season, and might be traded during this season.

Who does he play ahead of? Even if NAW is gone (and we don't get a guard in return), its probably not until closer to the break. Ant, Conley, DDV are all obviously miles ahead of him. And Dilly and TSJ are way better prospects than Clarke.
I don't see anyway Clarke doesn't spend the year in Iowa. He's just so far from being an offensive contributor.

When I hear him speaking I have Shane Battier vibes: he is smart, he knows the importance of being prepared. I get that he is not ready, but I like his progress in terms of maturity, thought process, preparation level. I think it is very underrated aspect of rookie. I think mentality-wise he is an NBA player already. I mean he is ready for work. I would be ok if he spends entire year in Iowa working on his body, killing everyone in defense and refining his three point shot. MIN will need him next season

We are just so freaking deep. Did we have to take KBD in that trade for salary matching? I see no place for him on our team either.

This boy smart. Keep in mind, he will spend a lot of time in Iowa, wearing the No. 22 and Clark on his jersey. Business acumen.

Re: The Official Jaylen Clark Thread
My questions going forward:
1) Is Clark more of PoA defender like McDaniels or help defender?
2) Is he already as good as NAW at navigating screens? This season NAW has been mentioned as the best screen navigator in NBA
3) Is Clark strong and big enough to regularly defend wings such as DDR?
Best comp for Jaylen Clark? I honestly struggle to find one. He is not uberathletic guy, does not have the longest wingspan, is not strong as hell, is not the meanest, more intelligent well spoken guy.

He is a lot more like NAW in terms of being an "energy and effort" defender. Jaden uses those too, but it's also different because he has such ridiculous physical gifts.
Another guy I'd put Clark in a similar category as is Lu Dort. Clark is lighter, but has a similar physicality to his defense.

Re: The Official Jaylen Clark Thread
He already looked better than NAW from the overall game skill perspective. More mature and is better with running cuts and staying in front of him man on D. Interesting thing is he is the same age as Ant.

I am not an X’s and O’s guy, but I can repeat what I heard.
1). Clark can be a good help-defender already, but that usually takes more experience. He is already a good PoA defender, and likes to get into opponents to harass them. With his style, he will need to be careful to avoid fouls in PoA, or wait to get refs’ respect.
2). He isn’t as good as NAW at navigating screens, who led the NBA last year and may do it again this year. MIN has three great PoA defenders, but they each do it in different ways. NAW does it by being small, slithering through screens to stay in front of their man. Jaden does it with length, making it harder for them to pass, and even if he gets beaten, he has the length to block from behind. Clark does it with strength, and likes to get up into his man,
3). I think he is already strong enough as an older rookie, and likely to get stronger in the NBA?
Best comp for Jaylen? Lou Dort. They both want to get into you and use physicality.
I would add that these three very different defensive styles gives Finch a huge advantage, because different offensive players are vulnerable to different defensive styles. Jaden is great against most players, but he doesn’t have the strength to defend Doncic. Clark would struggle to guard Curry after GSW ran a couple picks (he’s a NAW guy), but Malik Monk is susceptible to physical defenders like Clark. This variety of defensive options may be another reason MIN didn’t trade NAW at the deadline, think Jaylin simply replaces him.

Re: The Official Jaylen Clark Thread
If anyone has cleaning the glass can you please post Clark’s stats this season. The sample size is compromised by the garbage time and that drags down the averages.
If Clark is the second coming of JO, but not a significant improvement on JO, does that change how you guys feel about him? Personally I am a Josh Okogie fan. I like Clark’s defense for a lot of the same reasons I like Josh’s defense. I do think TSJ is going to be higher in the pecking order as a more balanced player, but that does not mean Clark will not find opportunities in the years to come. All of this is to ask, would you convert him now paying Millions to do so with the tax and losing the roster spot (playoff depth at PG or C,) to simply have Clark for the playoffs?

Re: The Official Jaylen Clark Thread
One thing that's been nice to see is that they trust him enough to move Jaden off-ball, which gives us a low man in the defense when they run out smaller lineups. Just opens up the number of things we can do with the lineup
