I think I’m done with Scoot

Post#1 » by DusterBuster » Tue Oct 1, 2024 3:06 pm

I might be too harsh here and the whiplash of going from an ultimate pro athletes like Dame to his replacement coming into media day absolutely blazed out of his mind. I get it’s not 2000 anymore and there’s not nearly the stigma against weed like there was then, but you really can’t hold it down for the first day of work?

This kid is just starting to scream million dollar athlete with 10 cent brain. Not convinced he has the mentality to put things together as he was hyped.

Ayton was too, it's hard to tell with Shaedon because he's kind of an astronaut in general but i think he was as well, dude would not stop playing with his mouth... Whatever, I don't care about weed, I was in the industry at a corporate level for years, but it's cringe and unprofessional to show up to media day blunted.

Scoot has always come off that way in interviews. Same with Ayton and Sharpe to be honest, none of them are very good on the mic. Also the start was pretty comic but as it went on he was fine, I don't think he was actually high for it.

I was not impressed by Sharpes interview skills when he was on the mic prior to the draft. Year 2 he was much better, more relaxed.

Are you serious? They’re just eccentric personalities. Scoot is obviously a baby still in his confidence. Some of y’all need some humility/social training

Social training? Some of these guys can barely form a coherent sentence. It is what it is, but showing up high af to media day is a bad look.

Wait, you're "done" with Scoot because of something of which you're accusing him but have zero proof? Seems like maybe you may have been done with Scoot before this.

I see no difference in this interview than the last year's. He's always been a bit cringey on a microphone.

I dont want to read too much into it, and these kids are young, and I am not even accusing them of being stoned.

But winning players in this league generally can string a few sentences together in a coherent way.

Personality is fun to root for as well. Look at OKC - SGA, Jalen, Chet - all those guys are pretty glowing personality wise. It certainly increases the fun of rooting for someone IMO.

The ability to do interviews has zero correlation with basketball skills. That said, there was a distinct lack of confidence coming from Scoot in his answers, which is worrying. The fact that the Blazers largely hid him over the summer (no summer league, very very little media on his workouts) only adds to that worry.

He's shown flashes, going to withhold judgement til I actually see him play again because of that.

To add to it, Scoots talked a lot about stuff he's read that helped him over the season. Weird self help philosophy books, but definitely not light reading. I don't think he lacks intelligence, but whenever he talks and some of his actions on the court definitely makes me think he has ADHD. And I think if you know a lot of people with ADHD in real life you can see how they are intelligent just have difficulty following a conversation at times, misunderstanding or taking it on a weird tangent. The good news is, if this has any truth to it at all, it's pretty manageable over time. Most of the best engineers i know have ADHD.

It is funny that the first thing he mentions is food  , but my favorite interview by far was from RW3. I think he's going to be my favorite player this year. His attitude is just awesome. The done talking about basketball comment early in was priceless.

It was a weird way to start as an answer to the question he was given, but he is 20yr old kid and the rest of the interview was fine. I am not reading to much into it.

Yeah I agree. We need to give him time one way or the other. He's a kid

The food answer was a joke that didn't land. I think I'm done with Scoot being a comedian.
Hopefully the basketball thing will work out better!
Was hoping for something more substantive on how he was addressing his inadequacies from his rookie year (most notably, finishing at the rim, but also 3 point shooting and decision making). He mentioned body position and reps. We'll see if any of that helped in a couple of weeks.

I was actually pretty stoked to hear about the positioning stuff--I think a big part of Scoot's at rim finishing was footwork related. He looked sped up pretty much most of the time. Whenever he got to his spots things still looked a little unnatural. Of course, I'll leave out the fact that he can't finish or pass with his left hand...that's a whole other issue entirely.

If you're done with Scoot but the Blazers are not, does that mean you're done with the Blazers?

I’m definitely worried following yesterday’s pre-season game. Scoring efficiency (at rim and from 3 especially), assist to turnover ratio, and defense were Scoot’s 3 major flaws and all 3 looked absolutely brutal still. I know it was one game, but I heard at least one source saying he still looked bad over the summer. If he is going to make a big step in improvement, I don’t think it happened this summer. The one skill he liked like he may have that is functional is using his athleticism to do herky jerky drives and draw fouls, but this isn’t enough to make up for the other flaws.

If his level stays anything like this he should not be starting, he simply does not deserve that job being handed to him. Let him "earn" the job if he can, he needs to reflect and admit how **** his play is and work hard om improving it, and I saw nothing of that from last nights performance, And yes it's only one game but damn he was bad. Really liked what I saw from Camara, want to see more.ironic that our centers were 3/3 from 3.

I’m starting to worry that he may be a career bench player. I really hope I’m wrong though. Well, maybe not having a competent guard anywhere on the roster will help us land Flagg. Getting a guard should be easier in this league than a great big.

I know you didn't blame Scoot for being handed the job, but I do want to say that it shouldn't make us judge him any more harshly for how he's played with his minutes. He sucks so far, but I also think he's doing his best. His skills just aren't at NBA level (yet?). I agree he should be coming off the bench, but as long as the team is committed to developing him in this manner, I can't resent him for being unworthy of his minutes.
