Would you trot out a stinker of a trade just as you’re having a grand media kick off to training camp?

Hornets are forever helping other teams be better than us, cause we’re …..nice?

So we should turn away free assets because any trade we do that helps the other team is stupid.

It's also stupid if we sit around and don't do trades.

So pretty much we're stupid no matter what we do.

At least you're consistent.

I specifically said I suspect the deal is ultimately poor value, if, as I suspect, we take on Jefferies who does nothing for us, and a second round pick. If it’s more…better…then I may change my mind. But dumping on my opinions isn’t explaining how the deal, if it is this one that I suspect, is such a benefit to this team. Please elucidate your thoughts.

My thoughts are you are **** on a deal the terms of which have not yet been announced for no apparent reason other than to make sure we are all aware that you don't believe in our FO.

You do not have the information necessary to formulate an opinion about the deal, yet for some reason that hasn't stopped you from preemptively complaining about it.

I keep checking in on your board to see what the final form of this trade is and am shocked to see any kind of complaining going on. Assuming you aren't taking o future money, your team is essentially buying picks with the owner's money. Even it is crap 2nd rounders, it is essentially free from a fan perspective.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

So what happens if we commit all our extra cap room for this, and a different trade opportunity comes along later that is much better, but we don’t have room to make the deal? Team has been there, done that, to their regret. That was a previous admin, not the current one, which I DO like much better than the Mitch show. I just hold them accountable to be good at what they are doing. Many good signs, a few questionable.

No more comments from me until the actual final terms of this mystery deal emerge.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

It’s clearly Bassmans turn as a veteran fan to have a brain snap this season. It feels like we’re taking turns.

Do you have any idea how much cap room we actually have right now, or is this more preemptively complaining in a void of information?

Thanks Diop! I admit this mystery trade for nuthin and the Williams next injury put me into an early funk. Maybe coupled with all the horror and tragedy coming from my home region of the mountains…it all pushed into one of those “grab the table and turn it over” fits. Points are still legit concerns IMO, but admit way too early.

I’m probably way too invested in being a Hornet’s fan, but like so many here, I’m dedicated despite the abuse and disappointment we’ve suffered over these many years.

Peterson alluded to these kinds of deals in his opening press conference IIRC.

and why not? if they're not literally a borderline tax team, they should always be on the lookout for opportunities to trade cap space or salary slots for draft assets. 2nd rounder here, 2nd rounder there. before you know it they're trading back into round 1 some day, or jettisoning a pile of them in some deal to upgrade the roster.

This appears to be such a small, inconsequential trade that it doesn't make sense to get this viscerally angry about it

Read on Twitter

Bobby Marks
@BobbyMarks42
Here are the agreed trade details, per sources.

The trade call has not taken place yet.

New York receives: Karl-Anthony Towns (from MIN) and the draft rights of James Nnaji (from Charlotte)

Minnesota receives: Julius Randle (from NYK), Donte DiVincenzo (from NYK), Keita Bates-Diop (from NYK) and 2025 top-13 protected Detroit first (via NYK)

Note: The first from Detroit is top-11 protected in 2026, top-9 protected in 2027. It will turn into a 2027 second from Detroit if not conveyed in 2025, 2026 or 2027.

Charlotte receives: 2025 second (least favorable of Denver or Philly via Minnesota), 2026 (Golden State via NYK), 2031 second (from NYK), DaQuan Jeffries (sign-and-trade from NYK), Charlie Brown Jr. (sign-and-trade from NYK), Darius Washington (sign-and-trade from NYK) and $7.2M cash

yeah idk about this. the 2025 2nd is totally worthless. 2026 is a mid 2nd probably, 2031 is a wildcard but leaning good. We gave away Nnaji in the process, and received cash to cover the 3 contracts coming in. I think we did NY a big favor for no real gain. Should've held out for a better asset and not handed them a free prospect.

How y’all like that? Think giving up Nnaji is worth those 3 stinker 2nds and those 3 trash players?

Can I judge this deal now guys?

In my most humble opinion…it is crap. Three more guards, who all do nothing for this team. Throw away one player of modest possibility for a passel of dumper picks. Oh well.

Nnaji didn't want to play for us, better to get something out of the asset.

We traded a guy who wasn't going to play for us and get 3 meh 2nds plus cash. I don't see that as negative, crap, stupid move, etc.

Second round picks are NBA currency. This could really be seen as a net-zero deal for the Hornets financially, but a net positive with new draft currency. 2nds are used (like we see in this deal) to fill in where a first isn't available. 2nds are used to trade up to snag a coveted player. 2nds have value and the more you have the more you can wheel and deal.

I don't have an opinion about the three players. I frankly don't see who the key acquisition is in this deal for the Hornets. Having cash and picks is fine for a rainy day, but at some point the franchise has to address the center position or at least pay lip service to it. I don't see how they are doing either.
