Re: KAT To The Knicks Part 2
I'm giving KAT a clean slate. Not expecting him to be Mase or Oak but he cannot be Charles Smith or Bargnani. He needs to be himself but also not be a punk.
I think that's my biggest concern after this trade. Both Randle and DVo were our goons. Who is going to get in an opposing players face after a hard foul or altercation? Hart is tough but I don't see him as a goon. Brunson isn't like that and we honestly don't want him doing that. OG and Sims are quiet and low key. Mikal doesn't come across as a goon either. Deuce? Precious? You need a goon and overall toughness to win it all.

If Edwards wasn't on that team (can't stand him!), I'd root for Minnesota. But def rooting for Ju and DVo!

Re: KAT To The Knicks Part 2
At least we did him a solid. He sounds happy being back with his former coach. It would be cool if the trade worked out for both sides

Maybe Gobert gets hurt mid way through the season and we can swap a healthy Mitch for Donte

Re: KAT To The Knicks Part 2
If healthy, there is no question this trade makes the team more balanced. Before the trade 1-4, we had Brunson/DDV/Miles/Hart/OG/Randle/McBride. That is 7 players who are expected to get decent minutes on 4 spots. Now you may say Randle can play some center, but that is really forcing things. In reality we would essentially be underutilizing some of the guys while having to play Precious/Sims more minutes than perhaps we should at least until Mitchell was back. After the trade, you have a more balanced 1-5 rotation (assuming everyone is healthy) with KAT able to play both forward and center and DDV out of the picture. Really my only beef with the trade is health. I still believe having OG/KAT on a 90+ million cap hold for the next four years is extremely risky. That said, if we do get lucky with the injuries, there is not question this roster is way ahead of what we had last year

I think we are changing the identity of the team. Exchanging some toughness for more overall talent. I share your concern but then I look at a team like Boston and don't see any enforcers..yet they were ok. Also OG aintno punk

Re: KAT To The Knicks Part 2
Worth noting that a lot of KAT's missed games from the COVID years were because it seems, genetically, he's pre-disposed to having a rough time with COVID. His mom and six other family members passed because of it and I believe he was hospitalized and put on bed rest because of it when he had it. He missed 13 games when he got it. An abnormally large chunk. He's been relatively a durable player up until last year.

Re: KAT To The Knicks Part 2
At the end of the day, Randle's just an awkward player to fit around
He's clearly talented but needs the ball in his hands and isn't a true #1, isn't a good enough shooter to play off other high-usage players, and doesn't really have the size or defensive ability to play C which would mitigate a lot of his issues offensively
If we play KAT at C, we will probably have some defensive issues. Honestly a lot of the "KAT is a good defender actually" stuff seems like cope to me, but we'll see. However, given his offensive skillset he does allow us to play like a modern team. Whereas last year we were regularly running lineups that had a complete non-shooting C and 2 31% 3pt shooters (Randle and Hart), now we're likely spending most of our time with only 1 bad shooter (Hart) on the floor, and we have potential to put out 5 good shooters all at once. Even if we primarily play KAT in the iHart role, him having the ability to shoot opens up so much of our offense and at the same time not having to have a PF that's a bad shooter as well as a non-shooting C is gonna do wonders for our spacing.
