I think we are moving on from his injury proneness and one sided game in the favor of deploying more two way players throughout the lineup. Sometimes teams are ready to move on from guys for various reasons and the above may be it.

Doubt it. Mitch's injury puts the Knicks in a sell low mode. If he's traded, the earliest in my opinion would be at the February trade deadline assuming he shows he's playing at 100% when he returns.

Well if Herb Jones and or Murphy are in play....it ain't sell low ... atleast to the Pelicans. They are thirsting for a defensive center and Mitch might be far and away the best available one....

Well if that other team is the Lakers, they gave nothing we'd want. But I think that Mitch has more value to The Pelicans than most other teams...and being a home town kid is icing on the cake.

Last day for teams to sign an extension-eligible veteran player with multiple seasons left on his contract to an extension. An extension-eligible veteran player on an expiring deal can still be extended after October 21
Last day for teams to complete sign-and-trade deals
Last day for teams to convert an Exhibit 10 contract into a two-way contract

Jan. 5:
10-day contracts may now be signed

Jan. 10:
All NBA contracts are guaranteed for the remainder of the season

Icing on the cake is the exact problem for the Pelicans. They need a rim-protecting center on the floor, not one that is enjoying beignet-eating contests with Zion while both are out with injuries. In this specific case, home comforts are not a positive.
