But I know being a Knick means a lot to him, seeing his comments about how his mom felt about MSG. So I think there's alot of emotions behind the cameras.

I think it's mixed emotions. He's more than likely thrilled to be in NY, and I think he's alluded to it. But he's also built a life in Minneapolis and a bond with the teammates and the fans. It's the only place he knew in his adult life so I can understand why it's tough with everything happening so fast. It has to be overwhelming.

Even Melo sounded a bit flat in his first interviews and he was basically pushing to come here.

I don't really care for training camp soundbites. But I can't wait to see them play and how they build chemistry.

I know Minny meant a lot to him. He never requested a trade so it had to have been really tough. Dude was shooting in their facility at 3 am after the trade was announced. It had to have been tough leaving. So I don't blame him for acting like that in his interviews so far. Honestly, as long as he balls out on the court, dude can be like OG anunoby for all I care

Watch the club shay shay interview. Kat wanted to be drafted by the Knicks. His mother considered the garden the mecca. Kat's mom taught him so many lessons about life and even basketball; they were very close.
This is a dream come true for his mother who passed and for Kat. What you saw in that interview is a seasoned VET.
He is well aware of the media in NYC, has been well prepared and will not fall for any traps. Sit back and enjoy the ride
to the chip. This year or next year and at worst in year three... :D

The Knicks infamously fell to the No. 4 pick and drafted Kristaps Porzingis, missing out on Towns — who went to the Timberwolves.
At the time, Towns felt prepared to be be viewed as a “savior.”

Don't get me wrong, I want KAT to be here and am happy about the trade. However, I also want KAT to want to be here.

The highlighted part above is what I was missing. There was no "gushing" like we saw when Mikal got here. I thought KAT would say how much the past 9 years meant to him in Minny, then add "but OMG I am finally able to fulfill a childhood dream and play for the team I originally hoped would draft me." Instead, he mentioned how much the franchise meant to his mother (not him) and how being here means he'll be closer to his family (not, how he can't wait to win it all here).

I'm not the type to read much into things. However, my gut reaction says he's not crazy happy. At least, not yet. Just a personal observation.

Heres my thing...I'm not bias about Kat or Randle. I just started watching the Knicks again last season. Before that I was a die hard from the Ewing days up until Mitch's rookie season. I only seen Randle play last year. When I judge someone I dig deep. Watch them extensively. That being said I got nothing against Randle. As far as Kat is concerned. When he was first drafted-
I labeled him soft- I was KP all day etc...

Fast forward...Last year because I have JMAC on my BAF team I watched every Minny play off game along with some regular season games. Kat is not soft. I was wrong. Kat is extremely mature- very intelligent- witty-savy-great locker room guy and he was beloved by the Minny community.

You gotta look at all of these things when you judge a player. That's why I told Starks to
watch the Club Shay Shay interview. There's an article I found that discussed who Kat's mother was - it went into how close Kat was with his mom etc...Kat saying what it meant to his mother is a reflection of what this franchise means to him.
The fact that he was so active in the Minny community for so long is precisely why he's going to be very careful with his first set of interviews. Kat is a good person. Something I was wrong about because I got the information 2nd hand from a source that I thought was a good one.

In my research I have found the complete opposite. If you go on the most popular Minny forums
the fans love Kat- Kat did a lot for the Minny community and was a model community member and teammate.
The same way that some are already assuming that he doesnt want to be here- imagine what the Minny community would assume if
he came out in his first interviews and said- OMG I'm finally home! Minny was too cold for me. I'm excited to be back home. To be honest I always wanted to come to NY first. etc etc...That would hurt a ton of fans that supported him for 9 years.

Kat's mom didnt raise him that way and if you research his mother you will realize that...
You gotta watch that Club shay shay inteview...in the interview Kat talks about Antman and his approach in their relationship
to help Antman grow etc...

Kat had meniscus surgery two months before the play-offs and came back and guarded the Joker. That tells me a ton about him.
He could have easily elected to miss the play-offs. Many talk about the Dallas series- we maybe his knee had enough by that point.

I say all of this to say. My suggestion to any Knick fan would be watch and read everything you can on Kat (not just one 7 minute interview where the reporters dont even have his full attention) Go to every forum -google his mom's name- etc and then form
your opinion
:D

That won't be necessary because I genuinely have nothing against KAT. I'm not questioning his dedication to the game or how effective he'll be as a KNICK. My statement was solely an observation of his 7-minute interview and what I had "hoped" to see from him once he was here. It was really nothing deeper than that.

LOL it's a fancy title to convince Pat to come back home. Remember, he spent years saying he wanted to be a head coach in the NBA or nothing at all. I say give him whatever "royal" title he needs if it means he'll come back and be among the OG's like we saw sitting courtside during the playoffs.

KAT played his entire career from being drafted 1st overall with the wolves and probably this trade came completely out of the blue for him. I would actually think he would be a bit crazy if he wasn't a little taken back and emotional about the trade. Then you factor in coming back home (probably bringing up old memories with him mom).

If he was all jumpy and happy I would have a little bit of cause of concern to be honest.

no problem...yeah, respectfully, that was going to happen because of the time he spent in Minny and Kat's intelligence...
I think GONY made a good point too- talking about his Mom has to be tough for him as well...and that in too...

Yeah, honestly, I get it

Dude spent nearly 10 years in Minnesota, went through 2 rebuilds, never really complained, never really wanted out, then just as the team was finally coming together and all that hard work paid off, he gets unceremoniously shipped off

It's one thing to be unhappy and request a trade, it's another when you're happy with the team and it comes out of nowhere. It's a business, of course, but you get attached

Give it some time. He's probably always wanted to come to the Knicks, but he's also probably conflicted because it wasn't on his terms. I know some of the "grr, men shouldn't have emotions, grr" guys are gonna be very upset about that and call KAT weak, soft, feminine, whatever, but that's what it is. It's healthy to be able to process emotions instead of bottling it up.

Completely agree, I just thought I'd point out how down he came out in this interview. Obviously I'm not judging the guy based on a 7 minute clip nor do I think he should've been overly demonstrative. Just a thought.

Yeah, and as GO mentioned there's probably some unpacked grief with coming home considering everyone he's lost.

I mean you could see clear as day he isn't that invested in this team at the moment. He answered like 5 questions by saying "be the best versions of ourselves" and "putting the work in every day". He was repeating stuff over and over and not giving any real thoughtful answers when this is the first time fans are hearing from him outside of "..."

It was a terrible interview. Who knows though maybe he's a terrible presser kind of guy throughout his whole career.
