Don't get me wrong, I want KAT to be here and am happy about the trade. However, I also want KAT to want to be here.
The highlighted part above is what I was missing. There was no "gushing" like we saw when Mikal got here. I thought KAT would say how much the past 9 years meant to him in Minny, then add "but OMG I am finally able to fulfill a childhood dream and play for the team I originally hoped would draft me." Instead, he mentioned how much the franchise meant to his mother (not him) and how being here means he'll be closer to his family (not, how he can't wait to win it all here).
I'm not the type to read much into things. However, my gut reaction says he's not crazy happy. At least, not yet. Just a personal observation.
Heres my thing...I'm not bias about Kat or Randle. I just started watching the Knicks again last season. Before that I was a die hard from the Ewing days up until Mitch's rookie season. I only seen Randle play last year. When I judge someone I dig deep. Watch them extensively. That being said I got nothing against Randle. As far as Kat is concerned. When he was first drafted-
I labeled him soft- I was KP all day etc...
Fast forward...Last year because I have JMAC on my BAF team I watched every Minny play off game along with some regular season games. Kat is not soft. I was wrong. Kat is extremely mature- very intelligent- witty-savy-great locker room guy and he was beloved by the Minny community.
You gotta look at all of these things when you judge a player. That's why I told Starks to
watch the Club Shay Shay interview. There's an article I found that discussed who Kat's mother was - it went into how close Kat was with his mom etc...Kat saying what it meant to his mother is a reflection of what this franchise means to him.
The fact that he was so active in the Minny community for so long is precisely why he's going to be very careful with his first set of interviews. Kat is a good person. Something I was wrong about because I got the information 2nd hand from a source that I thought was a good one.
In my research I have found the complete opposite. If you go on the most popular Minny forums
the fans love Kat- Kat did a lot for the Minny community and was a model community member and teammate.
The same way that some are already assuming that he doesnt want to be here- imagine what the Minny community would assume if
he came out in his first interviews and said- OMG I'm finally home! Minny was too cold for me. I'm excited to be back home. To be honest I always wanted to come to NY first. etc etc...That would hurt a ton of fans that supported him for 9 years.
Kat's mom didnt raise him that way and if you research his mother you will realize that...
You gotta watch that Club shay shay inteview...in the interview Kat talks about Antman and his approach in their relationship
to help Antman grow etc...
Kat had meniscus surgery two months before the play-offs and came back and guarded the Joker. That tells me a ton about him.
He could have easily elected to miss the play-offs. Many talk about the Dallas series- we maybe his knee had enough by that point.
I say all of this to say.
My suggestion to any Knick fan would be watch and read everything you can on Kat (not just one 7 minute interview where the reporters dont even have his full attention) Go to every forum -google his mom's name- etc and then form
your opinion
