It's very easy to get Moody minutes in the second unit. Payton and Looney should be afterthoughts at this point. I think Kerr will start Draymond at the 5 as a "nominal" center just so he can get JK in the starting lineup. I think Melton will start at the 2 so that Podz can run the second unit. Here's how I see it breaking down:

Starters:
Steph
Melton
Wiggins
JK
Draymond

Rotation:
Podz
Buddy
Moody
KA
TJD

It's not that hard tbh. Payton and Looney should be the odd men out until/unless injuries or trades.

Draymond isn’t going to start at the 5.

"nominal" starter...really just enough minutes so JK can start with him.

Nominal means what 3 min to start and 5 min to close? That’s 16 mpg of center.

Something like this, been hearing a lot out of Draymond that he plays best next to a center, and they looked good together last season. TJD grew an inch, time to commit to him in the starting lineup. JK can still play 25-30 minutes off the bench.

TJD/Anderson/Looney
Green/Kuminga/Anderson
Wiggins/Moody/Kuminga
Melton/Hield/GPII
Curry/Podz

Still kind of a funky roster with almost too much depth while not enough top end players.

Sounds like wiggins might have that 3rd spot locked.

Steph
Wiggins
Dray

Podz vs melton vs jk vs tjd for the last 2 spots.

I'm rooting for moody though to get one of those.

I don’t think they see moody as a 2. At least the beat writers don’t seem to think he has a shot.

I think it really comes down to whether we’re trying to win games with defense or develop the young players.

C Green
PF JK
SF Wiggins
SG Melton
PG Curry

Melton at the 2 probably makes sense if you want to get him on quicker guards and free up Wiggins as a help defender or the primary guy on forwards.

But this team is imo limited in terms of upside to the point that they really should just start Moody at shooting guard. Hope that Moody can take a leap that he's a good starter on a playoff team or his value takes off that he is more appealing in a trade. You know Kerr is not going to start Moody but in some logic it's actually the best choice.

I don't want to see Podz start. If you are already playing a small center then it's challenging enough to go small in the backcourt. Unlike GP2 and Melton I don't really like Podz on defense. I wouldn't want Podz on quick guards like Fox or Morant or on bigger forwards like LeBron and Kawhi.

Think I would even take Hield over Podz starting. Buddy is just a better shooter whether standstill or on the go and that does open attacking space for the other guys.

Kerr says this will NOT be the starting lineup: Steph Curry, Brandin Podziemski, Buddy Hield, Jonathan Kuminga, Draymond Green.

That grey unit would seem to be a good defensive group. If Looney and Moses are your worst defenders, that ain’t bad.

I think that unit might beat the 1st unit in scrimmages. And that's what probably happened.

Good to have defensive options but GP2, Melton, Moody, Anderson, Loon is probably scoring about a point per minute, so you better have a lead if you put that unit in.

I think melton needs to start. He's already figured out how to play with steph and dray. And that's not an easy thing to do.

Having a team "fit" will be our x factor this season. We saw it in 2022.

Oh definitely, Steve said post game he likes the fit. I think it's a shoe-in at this point.

I'm already worried about whether we can find a way to keep him next year
