2024 Training Camp - Preseason Thread

Last comment on this, as I think some are missing my point.

There were good centers available at 6 or in a trade back scenario. The front office placed too much hope in Williams returning despite their direct knowledge he was not ready to be depended on. They chose a stretch of a prospect over strengthening our center position and possibly acquiring more assets.

Williams still unproven to be ready to play, and now has a new injury problem. Their decisions keep our center position a weakness.

Drafting for need at #6 is a bad process, regardless of how you view Mark moving forward.

Especially for a team with so much future draft capital.
We have 15 2nds and 9 firsts in the next 7 years of draft.

We can't go back in time at this point, but what we can do is pivot in the future and if needed we have more than enough tools to trade for a starting center or backup center.

Jarrett Allen... traded for 24th pick
Daniel Gafford--- traded for 26th pick
Steven Adams-- traded for 3 2nd round picks

The Miami pick is top 14 protected in 2027 and unprotected in 2028. I am very confident that could net us a very good center via trade if we needed it, which would be a lot cheaper than sending the 6th overall pick for said player.

that is much more a "our front offices have sucked forever" problem than a "you shouldn't trade for centers" problem

Who’s ready for some basketball, must admit its the most optimistic I’ve been going into a season for a few years now. Its probably a fools optimism but a new season new hope.
This season hopefully will be different, it feels different with a new coach who’s actually won something and knows how to win. Obviously a lot will depend on injuries but that goes with any sport regardless.

Love this core, but thinking about the possibility of adding a Flagg or Ace to this core just gives me young OKC vibes when they added KD/Russ/Harden. We need that kind of core.

Hope we improve as a team, but man I just want a shot to get a top 3 pick this season.

season never really ended for the few players that went on a deep playoff run and then participated in the Olympics though
