Scheierman was terrible at both ends. Not just bad but terrible.
The two guys who looked really improved were Walsh and Davison. Walsh obviously worked on his shot over the Summer. Meanwhile Davison, who used to dribble around aimlessly like a chicken without a head played with intelligence and let the game come to him.
I wouldn't be too hard on Queta. That first foul was a clean block. And Westbrook faked two fouls pretending he was hit in the head when in fact he was untouched. The league may be talking about the game being more physical this year, but what I saw was the opposite. They called every ticky tacky fraudulent foul.
I was hoping to see some Jay Scrubb, but I guess he didn't make the training camp roster.

JD's size is okay. Was 6' 1/2" without shoes at the combine two years ago, but with a 6'6'5" wingspan, some athleticism, and junk in his trunk.

Agree on Scheierman. He just looked bad, not just jitters or missing shots but looking concerningly disadvantaged from a speed/athleticism perspective. Even his shot, in light of his college percentages and his rep as a good shooter, signals trouble being that it is very low and slow in release. I don’t want to overreact to a single preseason game because guys do adjust and figure things out, but THE WAY that Baylor looked bad is what is concerning.

Not quite true, sort of. The Celtics lost 97-91 to Fenerbahce Ulker in Istanbul in 2012, exactly 12 years ago tomorrow. A little super-quick guard named Bo McCalebb killed them in that game.

Early in the season, and Dick Lipe's already lying. Tsk.
I remember that game. We had Darko and Jason Terry on the roster. Was irrationally excited about our chances. Might have been the first season I started joining forums (ESPN).

I was intrigued by the possibility of Fab Melo as the new Kendrick Perkins, seems like yesterday and simultaneously 100 yrs ago.

What I liked is the Celtic defense.
The Cs really play good defense, both individually and collectively.

Not that I think he’s going to be a wash out but you always have to worry about 4/5 year guys that didn’t start to excel their freshman or sophomore seasons. Unless you have a track record of excellent outside shouting like Bane or are supper athletic you always have to worry if they were just elevated by their opponents. What is Baylor, four years older than Walsh? Hopefully we can chalk early struggles in camp to jitters.

why is schierman so bad, and why did they draft him. he's looked awful since the moment he stepped on the court in vegas

Maybe that's why he was the last pick in the 1st round.

I wouldn't be too critical of Baylor.
He's just a bonus, if he pans out.

I don't think he was *that* bad in Vegas. He wasn't great in summer league, he wasn't terrible. He was just ok.
And today he was bad, but it's just 1 game..he's a rookie.
He'll be fine.
If you watched him play in college, you know why we drafted him. He was clearly one of the top 25 or so prospects in this draft class, imo. I think 5 years of college basketball outweighs 1 half of preseason basketball.
Remember, Duncan Robinson, Max Strus, Sam Hauser, Derrick White and many others spent their first year in the g league. And they turned out ok..
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything

Shot was brutal and I do have concerns about his form, but we'll see. On the positive side, he did display his very good pick navigating skill a couple times when he was out there.

When I look back at the draft, the guys I wanted were all off the board by #30, so Scheierman was an OK pick. Watching LAL/MIN tonight, guys like Knecht, Dillingham, and Shannon Jr. are coming out of the gate better than Scheierman, but it's still early. He could get his shot going in the next game and we'll be back to talking about how he's such a steal.

They picked him over Filipowski, whom the Jazz are pretty high on.

Reliable report from a stoner.
But really, if Jrue or Derrick goes down with an injury, Payton can slide on in with the starters just fine--and JD would also be fine as their PG off the bench.

Weirdly, Scheierman might be better off with extended time up in Maine, where they'd most likely let him play closer to his real game, than hanging on to the end of the bench in Boston, where they'd more likely relegate him to the early-Neismith, spot-up shooting role.

Under Brad Stevens, Celtics prioritize hard working, high character guys probably more than any other franchise. It's why all the role players fit in so well, continually get better and Boston has the best roster in the league. But you have to give those guys the time to actually put the work in and improve and not cave to the instant gratification police that expects players to be awesome day one. Scheierman will be fine even if it takes a couple years to get there.

It doesn't look to me that he will be fine. He looks like a bust at the moment. It happens. For every Payton Pritchard there is Jerome Moiso or Romeo Langford.
