Each player brings different strengths, with Gobert anchoring the defense, Reid offering offensive versatility, and McDaniels showing promise as a two way wing. Adding Randle’s shot creation would help the Wolves’ offense, especially with his ability to exploit mismatches and create his own shot.
And if it doesn't work out this year, Randle will be fairly easy to move as an expiring. The Wolves gave themselves some flexibility with this deal, plus the addition of DiVincenzo is a perfect fit.

Downgrading from Klay Thompson to Buddy Hield feels like when we went from JJ Redick to Laundry Shamet

I wonder if the KAT trade is also a sign that the Wolves think guys like Josh Minott & Leonard Miller are ready for real NBA rotation roles. Both are only 20 but have been G League standouts in the past couple years. I’m actually starting to talk myself into them as a better team next year.

In the long term, it’s easier for the Timberwolves to build around Anthony Edwards, as he is the clear centerpiece of the franchise. In the short term, Naz Reid can fill in for Towns in many ways. The Wolves likely recognized the need for another shot creator beyond Edwards, especially after seeing how fatigued he became from defending players like Luka while also having to carry the offense.
The team’s struggles to generate effective offense when Edwards was worn out likely prompted them to pay a lot for Dillingham as another creator. Additionally, Julius Randle is a more reliable shot creator than Towns who’s more of a stretch big who can’t create against smaller forwards like PJ Washington in the playoffs, which is why the trade benefits Minnesota more than New York if you analyze it deeper. There’s a more coherent plan for the Wolves in surrounding Edwards with secondary creators, while the Knicks’ overall structure may suffer without another shot creator outside of Jalen Brunson, while depleting their depth.

I believe the Wolves got better and actually will be the 'winners' of that trade. Randle gives them a second creator, but maybe more than that gives them flexibility they didn't have with KAT's contract. If Randle doesn't fit, he becomes an expiring after the season and will be far easier to move. DiVincenzo keeps the spacing which mitigates the loss of KAT in that area, and Naz Reid will become a bigger factor. It is Edwards' team now, and moving the guy who was the face of the franchise only cements that.
Until proven otherwise, the Knicks are all in with a group that less fits the way Thibs likes to play, and one that just doesn't look to me like a championship contender. We shall see.

Julius being a playmaker definitely allows him to be actively involved in the offense without being a great shooter. He's not as terrible as his number show as he is about 36% from the corner and on all catch and shoot opportunities. Terrible creating his own three. But with him being so inconsistent, along with McDaniels being inconsistent, along with Rudy being a non-factor from 3,etc. etc.... Could get a bit tricky with their starters. Though overall, I think it's a good trade

PJ Tucker being told to essentially stay home by the Clippers. Morey getting the Clips to take him in the Harden deal was huge after earlier giving him that third guaranteed year in his FA contract here.

Knicks looked like a team that lacks shot creation outside of Brunson. Their bench even looked better on offense with their heavy guard play.

Based on yesterday’s game, the Knicks looked clunky. The Hornets slowed down Brunson by putting Brandon Miller on him, and the Knicks responded by trying to generate offense through Bridges and Towns in the post, but it didn’t result in quality shots.
The Knicks seem to be mirroring the Celtics’ system, but their 2-3-4 positions lack the shot creation and playmaking needed to make it work.

Shams replacing Woj, especially after "The Worldwide Leader" fired Lowe, was the most predictable thing imaginable.

Re: Around the League: 2023-24 Season
My gut feeling is that the Nets could be a dark horse team to trade for Giannis.
The Nets have a stockpile of draft picks and could potentially acquire even more (i.e trading Claxton and Thomas), along with the necessary salaries or cap space to make a deal work. Pairing Giannis with a young talent like Ace Bailey or Cooper Flagg would make for an exciting core and elevate the team to be a contender.

The Bucks would be very smart to not hang on too long before pulling the plug on this group. Move Giannis while you can still get a king's ransom and start the rebuild early. Funny, but the Nets might just be repeating history if they give up the motherlode for another aging star.

So far, so good. He looks very comfortable, letting the game come to him.

I would have prioritized drafting a wing player, such as Terrence Shannon, Jaylon Tyson or even Ryan Dunn or Jakobe Walters. Unless it’s a “special” guard or big, I would focus on accumulating talented wings and place them be developed by Rico Hines’, like how he did with OG Anunoby, Pascal Siakam, and Dalano Banton.
Want a guard? How about Marcus Sasser and Tre Mann?
