I don’t mind Ingram the player. My issues with Portland getting him is he isn’t a true solution to the team despite being at his peak already, probably does make us better when we should be tanking for Flagg, and either we pay him way too much and become a treadmill team for many years or he is just gone after a year. No need to ruin the tank job for that.

Or, flip him at the deadline for more than you could get for Ayton.

How much value would a $36 million expiring soon to be a UFA hold? Any team trading for him would need to be certain that he was either a key piece for a playoff run and/or very likely to re-sign.

I mean the Cavs gave up a protected 1st, a very good second, and future cap space for LeVert because opposing teams had started selling out to trap Garland. Do I think an aging playoff team would part with at least a protected 1st to get out of the first round and possibly extend their window? Yes. Do I think that the Pelicans who are win-now are interested in that type of return? No.

Jarret Allen isn’t winning you anything. Garland won’t show up in the playoffs. Mobley is a glorified dunk man. Mitchell has some experience but is a liability on defense. To me, the Cavs are a treadmill team.

First off, the trade makes no sense from the Pels perspective. Ingram is a better player on a shorter contract, why would they include a first? I'd do Ingram for Ayton straight up but that's as far as I go. If the Pels are willing to give up a pick to ge a 5, they have other options that are less risky. I'm actually a big believer in Ayton's fit wiht the Pels but I realize there is a considerable amount of risk.

For those confused as to why the Pels haven't agreed to a deal for Ingram, you need to realize a)he's looking for 50 million a year and b) signing him makes it virtually impossible to resign Trey Murphy. Most people believe Trey is a better long term fit next to Z as he is a much more willing shooter. The problem is Ingram has more upside.

If Ingram can return to his 2019/2020 3 point usage then I'm good with resigning him. We are talking another 3 three pointers a game here. Heck if he had shot them last year he'd already have his money.

In this scenario Id def pull the trigger on a CJ plus a first for Ayton and try and trade Trey at the deadline for assets. That sounds crazy for most Pels fans but if BI is averaging 23-25 game and getting up 5 or 6 threes then hes a better fit for the team's upside than Trey.

Murphy available you say?

It’s an if/then situation. He’s banged up to start the season (hamstring strai) so I doubt that the Pels make a move right away. But if Ingram returns to form, then I don’t think they can keep him. Just can’t keep both especially as Herb looks like he’s locked up that other wing spot. But we won’t really know until the season starts and we see how Ingram plays this year.

He’s expensive, he plays no defense, is frequently injured and has no leadership skills.

POR has many problems right now. Investing significant cap room on a guy like that would be an enormous mistake.

Better to keep building through the draft and moving vets for value when possible.

Ok, two of those things are completely false. Ingram has played a key leadership role even when things were dark for the team and he has consistently played good to very good defense for three years. He can guard his man and adequately switch 2-4
