:(

Yeah...he's really gotta stop having rough starts.

One preaseason game doesn't constitute that, but yeah, we really need to see him playing well right away. The extension carries expectations with it.

Can't make any definitive statements, but observations:
- Holland played with a lot of energy and his defense looks legit
- JB is going to utilize Ivey so much better than Monty did
- The shooting/spacing makes a big difference
- If this team is healthy their floor is 25 wins.

wow 25 wins out of 82 with a top 3 player (allegedly in Cade??). This would be a complete failure imo

That's their floor, which is still almost double what they won last season. Ceiling could be 35-40 wins (not expecting it, but that is best case scenario).

And who has been labeling Cade a top 3 player?

Based on how he was paid by the front office

They weren't handing out pre-season tickets at the open practice.

Perhaps with the Lions/Tigers hype really high right now and the Pistons coming off a 14 win season it's going to be a bit slower going. The team might actually have to win some games early to get some fans to come back.

I got caught up in the game, but my thinking was that they should have known by that point that sales would be low and didn't do the obvious thing to goose sales. This was on ESPN, so not just any pre-sesaon game.

I'm glad we won, though I would've liked to see how we handled Giannis and Middleton.

Cade is a very good player who definitely has some improvement to do, especially on mental mistakes. No one is acting like he's a top 5, 10, 20 player in the league right now. His contract is pretty irrelevant when you consider a team with a high of 23 wins in the last five years is going to have to overpay to get any player of talent to play here. His average annual salary is also 28th in the league.

I saw the score and just assumed that there will be a lot of positive posts in the GDT and all I see is a giant whinefest from a select few. It's truly RealGM Pistons season now haha

Did not watch the game. Came to complain anyway. :D

But seriously, my brain does automatically wonder towards the critical aspects. I look at box score, see Ivey made 3-3 on 3's and start wondering "IF he missed all 3 of those, is it still a good game?". The small sample size makes it really hard to tell. We know he's not shooting 100% every game, but can he consistently be in that 38-40 range??

Or is it more about his ability to get downhill and get to the line? Something he *should* have been focused on last season.

I dunno. But sounds like Holland was fun to watch, so that's cool. I'll try and catch the next game. I'm oddly disengaged for this time of year. Usually I'd be pretty amped up, but right now I'm still kinda in my Summertime dgaf mode. We'll see. *shrug*

Ivey played a nice game even without the 3/3. He was basically the only starter that played with energy in the first quarter. More important that the shooting was his defense. I'm not saying he was as stopper or anything, but he stayed attached to his man, made reasonable rotations, and worked to get back in the play on the few instances he was beaten.

Also, all 3 of those 3's were from the corner and decent rhythm shots. Completely absent were any step backs, jabs, long dribble pullups etc. I don't think he's ever going to be a 40% shooter on james harden type looks, but if his shot selection for the season looks like Sunday night, I would be very happy.
