Derrick Rose Draft R1 - JimmyPlopper vs Fadeaway_J*

Post#1 » by durantbird » Sun Oct 6, 2024 4:18 am

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Please ensure you give a rationale for your vote; votes with no explanation will not be counted.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

**First to 3 votes advances.**

Total: 87.7/88.0

We play an inside-out game based around our MVP duo of Kobe and Reed, with Pippen filling in the blanks as the ultimate third option. Our big selling point is versatility on both ends of the floor. Kobe, Pippen, and Odom can all function as the ballhandler in a pick-and-roll, and both Odom and Reed can be the roll man. Kobe can score in an unparallelled variety of ways, either creating in isolation or moving without the ball. Reed can back his man down in the post, spot up for his deadly midranger, or crash the offensive glass. Pippen, Kobe, Odom, and Posey can make things happen on the break. We have solid shooting around our primary creators between Posey, Parker, and Porter.

Defensively, Reed anchors things in the paint but the rest of the lineup is super switchable. At 6-6, Kobe is our smallest starter, and the 6-10 Odom has the lateral mobility to hang with bigger wings and even some guards. The presence of Pippen and Posey ensures Kobe can avoid the most taxing defensive matchups and conserve his energy for the other end. Mahorn brings an old-school physical edge off the bench.

Matchup
- Initial defensive assignments will be straight up. Pippen plays a key role here as we hope to cut off Price's water and therefore disrupt the entire team's offensive ecosystem.
- Related to the point above, I think we have more variety and optionality on the offensive end. Pippen, Kobe, and Odom are all plus ballhandlers and passers who can create something for us off the dribble at any given time. By contrast, Jimmy is leaning pretty heavily on Price to fulfil that role; Melo can handle but isn't much of a passer, while Jones and Sheed are finishers at this stage of their careers.
- At the other end, we have a sizeable advantage on the perimeter where Jimmy's only plus defender in the starting five is post-prime Jones. McMillan is a plus off the bench, but he's also very limited offensively compared to the two-way role players we're able to rely on (Parker and Porter).

Good luck Jimmy.

In this matchup, I am confident my team will emerge victorious for several reasons. First and foremost, my roster is built around talented, complementary players who thrive in a cohesive system. I haven’t sacrificed talent for chemistry; instead, I have created a balanced lineup that excels both offensively and defensively.

Offensive Versatility: My starting lineup features Mark Price, Eddie Jones, Carmelo Anthony, Rasheed Wallace, and Bill Walton. Price is an exceptional playmaker and shooter, capable of running the offense and creating opportunities for his teammates. He can stretch the floor, which opens up driving lanes for Anthony, who is one of the most prolific scorers in the game. With his ability to score from anywhere on the court, Carmelo will be a consistent offensive threat.

Defensive Depth: Rasheed Wallace adds another dimension with his versatility, as he can stretch the floor and defend multiple positions. Meanwhile, Bill Walton’s presence in the paint not only provides elite rebounding but also shot-blocking. With Dennis Rodman coming off the bench, we have one of the best rebounders in NBA history who can create second-chance opportunities and contribute defensively against any of Fade’s scorers.

Cohesive Bench: My bench includes players like Nate McMillan and Scott Brooks, both of whom can step in and provide solid contributions. McMillan is not only a strong defender but can also run the floor and facilitate when needed, adding depth to our backcourt. Rodman, with his tenacious defense and rebounding ability, ensures that we don’t lose momentum when our starters are resting.

Defensive Strategy: While Fade's team relies heavily on their stars, particularly Kobe and Reed, my strategy focuses on disrupting their rhythm. With Eddie Jones and Nate McMillan, I can match up against their wings effectively, while Rasheed Wallace and Walton provide the interior presence to challenge any shots in the paint.

Chemistry and Team Play: My team has developed a strong chemistry that enhances our ability to execute plays effectively. We focus on ball movement, making the extra pass, and creating open shots, which is crucial against a team that may lean too heavily on individual talent.

Overall, the combination of my team’s offensive versatility, defensive depth, and cohesive chemistry gives us a significant advantage in this matchup. I believe we have the right mix of talent and teamwork to outplay Fade's squad and secure the win.

PG: Mark Price (1993) - 13.1 FGA/G - Cleveland Cavaliers
SG: Eddie Jones (2006) - 9.6 FGA/G - Memphis Grizzlies
SF: Carmelo Anthony (2013) - 22.2 FGA/G - New York Knicks
PF: Rasheed Wallace (2006) - 13.3 FGA/G - Detroit Piston
C: Bill Walton (1978) - 15.2 FGA/G - One-time MVP
B1: Dennis Rodman (1996) - 4.8 FGA/G - Chicago Bulls
B2: Scott Brooks (1991) - 4.6 FGA/G - Minnesota Timberwolves
B3: Nate McMillan (1995) - 5.0 FGA/G - 6MOY4

87.8/88

Price (38) / Brooks (10)
Jones (20) / McMillan (28)
Anthony (38) / Jones (10)
Wallace (24) / Rodman (24)
Walton (36) / Wallace (12)

I like Kobe Reed more than Price Walton a bit, and the rest of the team is also better for Fade. His defensive rotation might be a bit too big to handle a quick guard like Price but Carmelo is up for a tough series against elite defense.

Seems like quite a drop from Walton to whoever is JP's second best player. Fade just has more top end talent. Reed, Kobe and Pippen is pretty solid.

Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

I’m voting Fade as well, although I do like JP’s he just doesn’t have enough spacing. Melo at the 3 is a death sentence in these games. You can sneak him at the 4 in some games.

Kobe / Pippen / Reed is tough

Respectfully disagree with the comments, but good game Fade. Willis Reed is a fun player to see included in these games
