Here's where I get confused. 2nd down we try to throw and it's defended stopping the clock... the Rams still had a timeout left.. any dumpoff pass or handoff and they have to burn their last timeout. When we 1st got the ball back, I was thinking.. how would Tom Brady kill this clock and end the game? It would be all handoffs and high % underneath throws to good runners in the flat or under 5 yards with a goal of keeping the clock running and staying out of 3rd and long. Then to make it worse, 3rd and 10.. in Rodgerseque style we have to throw a low% 30 yard bomb instead of a higher % 11 yard pass. I know that we had a 1 v 1 in that situation but not at the point in the game, especially to the guy who has several drops already.
In the future, I hope MLF and Love learn from that and don't risk a dropped/defended pass in that critical of situation putting our defense against the wall constantly. Sure, run the WRs deep and make it look like we are going to bomb one but then sneak a guy in the flat or 3 yards out.. we need a package of safe plays like that to run clock, protect a lead and have us in 3rd and less than 5. Or even sneak our backup QB in for some RPO stuff.. idk but not that Rodgers' stuff. We've been leaving teams with 4 min to beat us for way too many years.
Low risk/high reward on the 2nd down play. Lineman just made a good play because the slant was open for an easy first down.
