So it seems we have one wr is who physically frail and another who is mentally frail. If I'm Gutey I'm on the phone with the Raiders offering Doubs and Watson for Adams if possible.

I'd trade Doubs but I still have hope for Watson. The recent ankle injury was a freak play that could happen to any WR hung out to dry over the middle of the field. His only real fragility was the constant hamstring problems, if they've figured that out it could be smooth sailing. Also his speed and double teams he gets from safety help really opens up the underneath stuff. His trade value is low but his potential is high, better to keep him.

humanrefutation wrote:Perhaps Doubs saw how many targets Wicks got last week (13) versus him (8) and is concerned he's being passed over. Wicks is probably supplanting him on some routes. Doubs probably is worried that he's a solid 3/4 on the WR depth chart behind Reed, Wicks, and big play Watson (when healthy). Then you factor in Kraft and Musgrave and Jacobs and now you're worried that your target share will shrink even more.

Thing is, each of those receivers brings something different. And I submit that Doubs is probably the most dependable security blanket out of any of them. He is who Love looks for on 3rd down and he had more first down receptions than anyone. And no one knows what the future holds, and how injuries might cause things to ultimately shake out.

But by throwing a tantrum and going home, all Romeo Doubs is doing is giving the team the chance to see how good the offense will look without him. And if the offense keeps on cooking - if guys like Heath and Melton cover his production - he will have just killed his leverage.
Doubs played 86% of the offensive snaps last week which topped all WRs. Reed played 78% and Wicks 76%.

86% is a big number for a WR. Jefferson played 90% last week for example.

Doubs is almost always on the field unless he needs a break or they play that big WR package with Heath in for blocking.

Have we ruled out Doubs missing out on practice as a boycott to narveson still being on the roster?

I’m changing my stance on Romeo. Crippling anxiety is a tough challenge and when you have such a bad issue with that, it’s hard to even conjure up straight thoughts in your head let alone articulating them properly. Maybe Doubs is more frustrated with himself than anything else, he’s had some bad drops this year and hasn’t been a huge factor in the passing game like Reed and Wicks and he just did a poor job voicing it….

I need to hear more before I make a real judgement call.

Reports that he couldn’t even muster the courage to leave his hotel at the combine and missed his participation should give you a good idea how crippling a mental health issue can truly be. Maybe I just have a soft spot in my heart for Rome and players that have to deal with that stuff but I think we need more information on this situation before we just decide to cast off someone that’s been a solid player for us.

Anxiety makes more sense than the idea that he's just being a jerk. Don't get me wrong though; anxiety can make you lash out like a jerk, but my point is that that's just a front. It's kind of like how people get angry when they're actually hurt, so anger is what you see even when its roots are in the pain felt.

No idea about Doubs personal issues, but I do know three folks battling chronic anxiety and panic attacks over several years. For some, medication helps, others counselling helps, often both, and unfortunately for some, nothing seems to help. For chronic battlers, even a good stretch is two steps ahead, one step back, lather, rinse, repeat.

Who is +1 this bull? He didn't get suspended for a game because he's frustrated with himself.

As someone that has struggled mightily with mental health issues, I hate when people make idiotic excuses like this. It diminishes people who have actual issues.

This is Doubs being selfish and stupid. That has nothing to do with anxiety.

Yea. If this was mental health related he wouldn't have been suspended.

100%. They would be bending over backwards to help him which is great. This has nothing to do with mental health.

He's being a selfish stupid **** and you have people making up excuses for him based on nothing.

Anyone think we should make a trade for a WR? Or are we good still? Wicks has nice routes but hands are rough rn.. and Doubs has the hands but doesn't seem open as much. Melton doesn't seem as good as he was at the end of last season.

We're fine at WR
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

If Doubs is done throwing tantrums then yeah, we're fine at WR.

Doubs will be entering the last year of his contract next year. So will Watson but the team can pick up his 5th year option after this season if they wish to. How much Watson's option will be depends on a lot of things and the time he's missed will factor in.

We'll definitely be drafting WR next year.

Watson was a second rounder. No 5th year option. He's also entering his last year. Melton too.

All three guys are going to be looking for extensions. Before Doubs had his suspension I would have thought he'd be the guy most likely to be back on a long term deal. All around solid WR but not special enough to break the bank in free agency. But now I'm not sure any of them get extended.

They absolutely need to reload in the draft.

Oh yeah, some reason I thought he was a first rounder.

Reed will get paid after next season.

Reed is the only WR we should be planning an early extension for at this point. He's a certified stud. Maybe the durability stuff lets you keep Watson at a discount, but the rest of these dudes are all interchangeable/replaceable as long as MLF is running the show.

I think there has been some overrating in terms of Doubs value thinking we could get a 2nd or 3rd for him, but his greatest asset to us is being able to be a beast at 50/50 balls. He’s basically the only one out of our group that can consistently do it, like he comes down with that sideline throw at the end that Wicks wasnt able to get.

Reed has been a surprise in that area but he’s still on the smaller side and Watson is soft on those.

Kraft and Musgrave are on the books til 2026, so no immediate issue for them. However, if Kraft continues on his performance development path, they may need to give some consideration on how to stagger the size of extentions across the board.
