That strike zone at the end of the Tigers/Guardians game was laughable.

There's a better chance of Attanasio getting his hands on every piece of '82 memorabilia he can find, putting it on home plate and jerking off on it for our opening day ceremony next year than there is of us throwing a single piece of it away, much less burning it.
I mean that's just good TV.

What was the story of Erceg with our organization? Saw he was a 2nd round pick and Looks like we pretty much just gave him away for some cash. Appears he has been pretty good with KC.

When Erceg was traded it was his eighth year with the organization, drafted as a 3B. His position player career was going nowhere so converted to pitcher for his seventh season in the minors in 2022. His results were not great as a pitcher but since he resigned with the Brewers as a minor league free agent there could have been something in his contract where the Brewers would let him go if a major league team offered him a spot on the major league roster and the Athletics were willing to do that in 2023.

On a non-playoff note saw Matt Bush was hit with DWI charges and for fleeing the scene. Sad tale of guy with talent that can’t get out of his own way.
Kinda had a rocky Brewers run which ultimately ended his career essentially. Wonder if the demons were returning at that point.

Re: 2024 ATL Thread - Pete Rose RIP
Where are we at the the MLB playoff format? If don’t like it, what can they do that doesn’t entail eliminating amount of teams that make it?
Wild card round only 1 series went 3 games. Last year I dont think any did. Only 1 home team won a series. Also once again seeing the teams that got a bye struggling in NLDS. Its becoming a trend.
Do we go back to 1 game wild cards? I really don’t know. They’re never going back to 4 teams. I dont know.

It's incredible how quickly he seemed like he had restored some of the magic with the Rangers and then fell off a cliff with the Brewers.
He was one of the reasons as a Hader trade appreciator I thought they'd just get by without Hader with Bush/Rogers basically aggregating the loss for that season. He was OK in 2022 with some blown games but his arm was completely cooked by 2023.
That sucks, though. What a wild and **** life that guy has lived, mostly of his own doing.

It's stupid. I never saw anything wrong with the previous playoff format because it made winning your division actually mean something. Having to play an extra series should never be a reward for winning your division. I mean yeah, knowing the Brewers they probably would have choked even if it was a 5-game series, but it's still stupid.

Here is my thing with the current format...
A couple years ago when the two wildcard teams had a 1-game do-or-die, everyone was saying "make it a best of 3!" and the league office basically said "we don't want to have the division winners resting"... well here we are. Its a complete disservice to the division winners. Make it two wild card teams again and let them play a best of 3...

Especially now that the schedule changed to play every team. I used to understand the argument that its an advantage when you would play the division teams a million times a year and can stack wins against like the Reds, Pirates years back even Cubs on some years. Now its not really like that as much.
The argument now will be sometimes that top wild card team will be better than the 3rd division winner and the 6 seed has had some success in recent years which in this format would be out. Its tough. I was an advocate of best of 3 but am kinda flipping back to the old way.

We're cursed. Mets are on their way to add to that WS graphic of teams beating Milwaukee to get there

It always amazes me that there are people that pay attention to this sport and torture themselves in a league with no salary cap, highly based on local TV revenue/advertising, and convince themselves that the owner of a team with a 1.5 million metro area population will one day outspend or come close to teams in a city of 10+ million. And as it inevitably doesn't happen each year, they'll get mad again and again and again.
It sucks, but it is what it is and sometimes spending more money on washed vets actually **** you over (mid-market teams).
Always miserable people. Honestly one of the more delusional mindsets I can imagine to continue to care if this is how you view it. Enjoy, I guess.

The Trop looking in rough shape this AM after the hurricane. It will be interesting if they get it repaired in time for next season. Metrodome took 8 months from collapse to repair completion.
Speaking of Minnesota, the Twins just went up for sale.

Tigers second best pitcher goes for the Dodgers in game 5 tomorrow night. I really hope it's Tigers/Royals in the ALCS.

I tend to agree. Its super frustrating BUT its been that way forever and there is zero I can do to change it. I remember always having to trade guys for prospects when I was a kid in Vaughn, Wickman, Sexson, Burnitz, etc. At least now we have a competent front office to identify young talent and find reasonable deals plus occassionally hang on to a guy like Braun, Yelich. It sucks that if miss on those big contracts that it really can hinder the team vs like LA who can shrug it off, but just the reality of it. Its not like the top payroll equals a championship either. It doesn’t hurt the chances but still need the players to work out and some luck along the way.
