Jazian Gortman - remember the name

Post#1 » by dirkdiggler4177 » Fri Oct 11, 2024 11:52 am

An undrafted player who hasn’t gained much attention yet has shown great talent in both the Summer League and preseason. Yes, I know, those situations aren’t the best indicators for estimating a player’s potential, but he has really demonstrated something special. He appears to be a very fundamentally sound player; he doesn’t force plays but instead lets the game come to him. Unlike someone like Jaden Hardy, he pushes the ball for the hockey assist in transition rather than looking to score himself. He has a knack for getting past his defender, is skilled at using screens, and is able to decelerate and then quickly accelerate past his opponent. His 3 point shot also looks good where his shoulders are square to the basket even when the lower body is going somewhere else.

First preseason game, all shots (7/13)

Second preseason game, all shots (3/6)

Jazzy G squares up well but is pretty weak on drives. How is his defense? Looks like a G League guy who will get some 10-days and maybe in four years will turn into a #10 or #11 guy on the cheap

I have to laugh when you say to "remember the name" when it seems made up.

Now excuse me while I blast some Fort Minor.

But is he going to win an MVP in the next 10 years though?

He's on that Poku-for-MVP 10-year path.

He should have went to FSU and played for coach Hamilton. This guy is going to be a journeyman.

The only thing I care about is what country he was born in and if he'll win the MVP for the US this decade.

Gortman played in the G-League last season, 752 minutes for the Rip City Remix and Wisconsin Herd. He shot just 31% on 3s (44/142), couldn't draw a foul (averaged only 3.0 FTA/40min).

He also committed 105 turnovers - that's 5.6 TO/40min, or for more perspective, 420 turnovers per 3000 minutes.

Not something you would want to remember.

If he wanted us to remember the name, he should've picked an easier name...

Looked promising on the Bucks, should have stuck with him.

If you want to try to measure the elements of basketball that are supposedly unmeasurable, spend a game just watching Marc Gasol.

Yes, his number has not been great, I will admit that, but the way he plays looks very good. I don't see any obvious faults in his game so far, considering he is 21 and coming from the G-league.

I would be surprised if he does not win ROY. Just signed a two-way with the Mavs.
