most of the complaints about randle are valid. i liked that he was kinda the last guy standing for us - no one really wanted him and no one wanted us - 3rd team in 6 years. he overachieved here. but he is a hard dude to really fck with - he is moody, had shtty effort at times, doesn't get along with others well. i mean i can relate to all of that - but that isn't an easy person to love. it takes effort. i don't like the realization that I just typed a paragraph arguing against my stance so i'll just say that it is equally hard to like a silver spoon young player who has skill, talent and work ethic issues that everyone wants to give a free pass too. like deeeeeez said i'm glad both are gone. and that we can make fun of KAT now.

Yes. Making him or Stat to be heroes for coming to NYC is fiction at its finest. They got paid. Now they are elsewhere. End of story.

Both players came to a losing situation and helped turn it around. Stat didn't have luxury of Dolan staying away during his tenure. Fair to note that Stat came at the end of his career and faded rapidly. Draghing the franchise down. Randle came on his way up and helped get the team to the playoffs. He did that on far less salary as well.

I hated Randle for all the basic logical reasons but, I admit to going overboard with it. I know you agree he turned it around in the end. I won't call either player a hero to your point but, they did help resurrect a pathetic franchise and make us relevant again. This time we have competent people making the decisions and no Dolan lunacy interference. Onwards and upwards!! LFGK!

we were the actual worst team in the NBA and just struck out on Zion and then struck out on everyone else in free agency because nobody wanted to come here at all, nobody even wanted to take Dolan’s money to ruin their career. But he came, and he left money on the table when he extended early the first time. When Brunson came here we’d at least made the playoffs recently and had a competent coach with an all star on the team a lot of assets and some building blocks in place

He could have just mailed it in like everyone else does after Dolan paid them but instead he won most improved player and racked up enough accolades to where we could trade him for an established all star all nba center

Even with being here the first year with Fizdale’s disaster of a team, he had an overall winning record with the Knicks, a difficult feat for this franchise. Culminating in a great trade that makes us one of the NBA’s best teams. Not like Melo, who we ultimately had to trade for virtually nothing and the team left in shambles. Look at what this team was before he got here, vs now.

I wouldn’t change a thing, glad about the trade as well

I hear people say that Randle left money on the table but did he get the maximum amount of money he could get at the time he signed his extension or are you only talking about that he didn't wait until his contract expired when he could have re-upped for a 5 year max?

Honestly if Randle did not re-up when he did i'm not sure if he would have still been in New York after the 2021-22 season if he was not traded before then. With that playoff performance followed up with that 21-22 season he probably wouldn't have been offered near as much as he was for extending early and his career may have taken a completely different path. That early extension may have been more of a blessing for him than the Knicks.

It’s hard to say but my point was he could have chosen to wait a year for more money, like Brunson this summer, and didn’t do that. also worth mentioning that his contract had incentives for making the all star team and making the playoffs and he actually earned those incentives in the following year, another example of him not mailing it in after he got the contract extension

I’d say for a multi time all star he’s gotta be underpaid. The following two years of making the playoffs with him making all star teams showed the 2021-2022 season was mostly not his fault, I don’t want to get into it but there were a lot of deep problems with that roster construction that led to the team’s regression one of the main reasons was opting not to play through Randle like they did the year prior and instead opting to play more through worse players, and then Kemba breaking down and clashing with the coach in a state of denial about how much he had left in the tank. Adding Fournier to the starting lineup was also a fatal mistake

Yeah but I don't think Brunson and Randle's situations were the same. Brunson was coming from a team that reached the WCF where he had some huge games in the playoffs with and without Luka. He then solidified himself as a star offensive player with 2 great regular seasons and multiple great performances in 2 more postseasons even through difficult circumstances. Even when he had 2 of the worst performances I have ever seen from him to begin the last postseason he kept competing and turned things around. It felt like he was definitely going to get the full 5 year max if he just waited.

Randle was a good player when he came to New York who was on his 3rd team in 3 years. The first year in New York wasn't good. He then had a great regular season with a terrible postseason. If he was eligible for a full 5 year max at that point I doubt it would have been offered to him. There were still huge question marks about him especially after that postseason. Maybe if he had waited he would have had a contract year performance and gotten max money or maybe he struggles again and the league decides he is not worth the money or headache. I don't know.

He may not have completely mailed it in but after he extended early he did follow it up with the worst season of his career with one of the worst attitudes I have ever had to root for. He bounced back in 22-23 but his effort level was never as consistent as it was prior to the extension especially on the defensive end. Even with the awards he has added since the extension I don't expect anyone to offer him a full max contract. I could easily see him either being offered less guaranteed years or much less average money or both. He still has a ton of question marks surrounding him.

I'm not blaming him for everything bad that occurred during his time but i'm also not crediting for everything good. Brunson had a much larger impact on the franchise turning around than Randle did imo. I feel like Randle was fairly paid for his time here and if he had not taken that extension when he did his career could have taken a left. I'm very interested to see where his career goes from here.

I think people do and should appreciate Randle's successes here because he and the teamed put in the work to become an All-Star. This is different from someone with more gifted talent like Melo & Amare, who were shoe-ins to start the All-Star games. I think fans can enjoy it.

Obviously, we were at a different inflection point this summer due to the salary cap and the trajectory of our team. Therefore, we had to make this trade, even if painful.

I think we'll succeed with KAT and the Wolves will be fine with Randle.

I simply do not believe that narrative. I think they were both making personally beneficial decisions that rewarded them financially and I do not see them as saviors in any way whatsoever. The idea that it takes courage to come to a franchise down at its heels is a storyline I do not subscribe to. That's fine if people feel this to be the case. It just doesn't fly with me.

I did think Randle last season was the second best regular season version of him we saw, because he played legit defense in the bubble year. He was at his best on offense last season because he committed to bully ball. He is one of the best players in the league at that specifically. So he was good last season, but he played no defense so its a half-hearted compliment at best.

We could have made it work with him this season so I was OK with him being here though I had no interest in him getting a big extension so I really did want him traded to avoid that outcome.

I was one of the only people who genuinely believed KAT was the game plan for two years running and it happened. I was not super gung ho on KAT as Randle's replacement and more of a fatalist who expected it to be happen eventually. And it did happen.

Now that KAT is here I consider him an upgrade in every way and for that I am glad. I think he will give us a more cohesive and dynamic offense and I expect he will give effort on defense whatever his flaws may be. My thesis recently has been having two of the best D wings in the league allows KAT to contribute effectively as a man and help defender without requiring him to be a paint enforcer. Sometimes it will leave us exposed, but overall I think it will result in a superior defense and lots and lots of forced shots and turnovers.

Randle for KAT was a good result.

Narrative? I stated facts. It's not a narrative that both players came to very bad situation and helped turn it around. Obviously of the two, Stat got a gross amount of money but, we went from losing forever to the playoffs and the team achieved some short term success. Undermined by terrible decision making.

Randle came on a fair contract to a team that had nothing. Just more facts. Not a narrative. He helped the team make the playoffs 3 of his five seasons here. Then he was traded for KAT. He was a big part of our turnaround and made this trade possible. Helping the future of the team.

I am not building a statue or selling a fairy tale how they saved the franchise. Just noting that they both came to a trash team that MANY players turned down for a long time. The team improved with them and they helped turn things around. Randle doing more for the good of the team than Stat could ever dream of.
