To give some credit the the Kings (who, btw, are a playoff team and have built a nice roster) it's easy to nitpick the moves in isolation, but without the McDaniels trade they were likely not even a player for DeRozan.

That POR 2nd in this stacked upcoming draft is gonna be the real prize. It's basically the equivalent of a mid/late 2024 first round pick.

It is room under the tax that is important not cap room. Every team can use their MLE as a trade exception now. I believe Spurs are over the cap like every other team except I think Detroit maybe.

More likely people don't think the Demarre Carroll trade is relevant within the context of the McDaniels trade, and thus had not brought it up. Why you choose to bring it up is unclear.

There's currently only 1 team in the NBA that has cap space which is the Pistons, and the Spurs are 9.1M over the cap which means they were over the cap even before taking on McDaniels 4.5M.

The Raptors also have the 8th lowest cap payroll in the NBA this season. So only 7 teams are spending less than them against the cap, and 6 of those teams are also operating above cap.

I understand why Sacramento would do this . Didn’t has the luxury to wait for Vezenkov to accept a zero buyout.

But indeed we have to give credit to Masai and Co.

This deal definitely helps the Raptors.
