What should we expect from Kobe Bufkin moving forward?

He's gotta stay health. He has already lost so much developmental time due to injuries.

I will say, Kobe Bufkin probably had a better first year as a pro than Dyson Daniels or Jalen Johnson.

IMHO, Kobe has a higher ceiling than Dyson Daniels. He's already a better scorer and shooter (though the NBA numbers don't reflect it.)

Kobe is also a more effective defender (at his size/position) than Jalen is.

My concern long-term is that Dyson and Zach's arrival prevents him from getting minutes at backup SG.
And Bufkin likely isn't a pure enough playmaker to be the backup PG...at least here.

I believe the kid will bloom into a really solid two-way player. I'm just no longer convinced that will occur in a Hawks uniform.

If Kobe produces he won't have a problem receiving minutes. He's suppose to be a more skilled shooter than Daniels but we'll see if Kobe performs or not.

Moving forward, we'll want him to be an elite role player. He could start in a lot of other places, but in Atlanta, he needs to be able to replicate some of what Trae does off the bench. It's probably more beneficial for him anyway. If he's in the vane of a Jamal Crawford type 6th man, then he'll have a long career.

Kobe is noticeably bigger/stronger than he was a year ago.

It's clear he's been working like crazy since we last saw him. I really believe he's gonna surprise a lot of Hawks fans this year and force his way into the rotation.

Kobe Bufkin's offseason improvement could pay off for Hawks

Bufkin said that his training regimen has included more weight training in an effort to strengthen the parts of his body that are taking more bumps. He credited the Hawks’ training staff, making note of its roots to the San Francisco 49ers and the credibility that brings.

Bufkin also spoke about a piece of his game that he wanted to improve.

A questionable shooter even in college at Michigan, Bufkin shot 22.5% from downtown with the Hawks. His 35.6% mark with the College Park Skyhawks was better but Bufkin is working.

“Being able to shoot the ball at a high level was something I really focused on this offseason,” Bufkin said. “I'm looking forward to displaying that in the in the preseason and the season to come.”

That could be a key differentiating factor for the second-year pro.

Bufkin will contend with Dyson Daniels and Vit Krejci for on-ball reps. Daniels, Bogdan Bogdan, and rookie No. 1 pick Zaccharie Risacher will all log minutes at shooting guard this season.

Bufkin needs to showcase his offseason work as planned, especially after he missed his first opportunity to do so over the summer. The Hawks are still very high on what he can bring to the team.

But the Hawks have also shown a willingness to pivot and have newfound depth.

Bufkin could also be useful as salary-matching fodder and a pseudo-first-round pick in potential trade talks.

Some of you are giving Kobe a lot of love. I'm liking some things but a bit less high on him. Hope you're right and I'm wrong.

If he does become a solid rotation player we will be stacked with young exciting talent. Still need a Zach Edey though ; )

Kobe's not a PG. But he is a useful, productive player with the ball in his hands. An above average defender.

I hope he gets some serious consideration for a starting role this season.
