What I would offer (for Suggs): Five years, $165 million. The total amount in guaranteed money is comparable to what the Suggs can sign in the offseason with a team that has cap space, plus one more year. The Magic have a proven track record of structuring contracts that decline each year. However, because of luxury tax and apron concerns, an extension would start at $32 million and increase each season.

ESPN: NBA contract extensions: What to know ahead of Monday's deadline

Jalen Suggs, Orlando Magic

Why an extension could get done: No team has been more aggressive in extending its own players than Orlando. Since the 2020 offseason, the Magic front office has signed Jonathan Isaac, Markelle Fultz, Wendell Carter Jr., Cole Anthony and Franz Wagner to rookie extensions. (Isaac and Carter Jr. extended their contracts a second time this offseason.)

Suggs is the quarterback of a defense that ranked in the top three last season. He tied for eighth in steals and ranked in the top 10 in defensive estimated plus-minus. As a result, Suggs became the third Magic player in franchise history to be named to the All-Defensive Team. Offensively, Suggs has continued to improve shooting since this rookie season. Last year he shot a career-high 47.1% from the field and 39.7% on 3-pointers.

Why it might not: As with many rookie extensions, Suggs may not be willing to compromise. You can make the argument that Suggs should be in line for the same five-year, $224 million max extension his teammate Franz Wagner received in July. But with Paolo Banchero in line to sign a five-year, $247 million extension next year, Orlando has to balance their future finances. Along with two first-round picks (their own and Denver's) in June, Orlando has $165 million in salary next season -- $22.5 million below the luxury tax and $30.5 million below the first apron. The good news is that Orlando has flexibility to shed $24 million in salary. Moritz Wagner, Gary Harris, Cory Joseph and Caleb Houstan have team options for 2025-26.

No, you cant. I love Suggs but he is at best a role player on offense with questionable upside on that side of the court because of missing skills. + His defense isnt even THAT much better than Franz's. This 165 million already makes me uneasy.

I agree, he needs to show more then he has. This might be why there is no deal. Don't get me wrong, I believe in him and to be fair its kinda shocking that our management that quadruples down on suspect injury players hasn't does say something of the negotiation process.

All this being said, the NBA is a business. You have to make money, and to make money you need to win, and to win he needs to be more then deserving of his contract. There is a world, God forbid where neither Franz or Paolo don't pan out and we become sellers. I just don't see it happening because of who Franz / Paolo are. Now, with career opportunity on the line, we get to see if Suggs can prove himself.

I’m a believer we get a Suggs deal done before deadline. I’m onboard with 5 years 150 million.

I think he is aiming for more and that is the holdout. Can't say I am mad about it either way. Just need to see more then I have, and I haven't seen or watched a single pre-season game that indicates he has made a leap. Anyone else?

Anything over 5/150 is absolute insanity right now. Realistically it should be somewhere in the 5/100 to 5/125 neighborhood (and he’s probably my favorite player on the team). If he wants to prove that his offense has another gear and willing to take the gamble, I’m all for it tbh.

October 21st.

If it's not signed by then, he will become a restricted free agent this summer.

My thought process, prior to the start of the season, was that he would be signed by now.

Number we possibly extend him at is even more important than himself actually. (unless he becomes our lead ballhandler which seems not propable). We cant let go of someone like Harden, but we cant overpay for someone like Caruso, Danny Green or KCP.
My money is on Banchero going number 1 !

Maybe the glaring hole at PG is a calculated risk by WePark for Suggs’ contract negotiations. Let Suggs fail as PG and get a discount?

We still have Jett and Black to figure out how to pay for or whether or not they will be complimentary pieces.

If Suggs has anything 4/120 mil or more on the table and isnt taking it, he's making a big mistake

my guess is he doesnt, hence the hold out on contract negotiations

he hasnt shown enough at PG so far in preseason to make me think he's going to get 30+ mil a year

Restricted FA is tricky, in 2025 it can be more tricky than usual.

Nets have over $50 M to throw around.
Rockets around $30M to throw
Wizards around $28M
Jazz $25M without Markannen
Spurs $23M

Free agents:
Vleet ( team option)
Butler ( player option)
Lauri ( probably will be traded mid season )
Ben Simmons
40 years old Chris Paul ( potential retirment)
Horford ( potential retirement)
Ben Simmons
Caruso ( probably will be resigned by OKC)

So... nothing really stops Nets/ Spurs from throwing whatever they have on Suggs if they think he is $30M player. In that case he would have to be resigned for exect same money or simply -gone for nothing.
Suggs on Spurs would be huge , they would become most talented defense in nba in a second. Victor, Vassell, Spurs ,Castle, Cissoko, Sochan.

It would be vise to work on resign before FA. But no, he isn't $30M a year player today.

I doubt he resigns this off season. If I were the Magic I would play the matching game next offseason. Unless he takes a leap I doubt a team offers more than 120 for 4 years.
