That's not really the point.

Who's the best player that the celtics can possibly get for their 15th roster spot is not a real question they have to answer.

They don't have to fill the 15th roster spot.

They only need to fill 14 roster spots..that's already done.

The question is, is LOnnie walker worth paying $11 mil in taxes..what's the ROI on that? Would he play enough, would he make enough impact, does he add enough beyond what we already have covered with the other 14 guys on the roster (plus our 3 2-way guys) that it's worth paying an extra $11 mil in taxes?

That's the question.

Brad said a few weeks ago that we'll likely leave the 15th spot open and that the exhibit 10 guys are likely headed to Maine. Bobby Manning, Brian Robb, Noa Dalzell, Keith Smith all say Walker is likely headed to maine.

That's probably the answer..
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

Knicks and Lakers fans already salivating over Lonnie Walker.

In reality, Brad Stevens doesn't have to do anything. If they don't announce anything, it means Walker makes the regular season roster and his contract converts to a one-year non-guaranteed.

Hal, what people say means s***! The media is told things all the time to stop the questioning.

The Celtics were incredibly lucky last year concerning injuries to their wing players, that may not be the case this year. If it wasn't for the luxury tax Lonnie Walker would be on this team no questions asked. The only real question is are the Celtics going to go the cheap route or are they going to sign a potential impact player off the bench?

Walker can do things that guys like Springer, Scheierman and Walsh can only dream off. Rather than knocking every post that doesn't agree with your view, how about we all wait and let's see what happens. Nobody knows what the Celtics will be doing, including probably the Celtics.

Agreed. The overall concept is that they control this player until Monday. Sign him to a 3 year minimum contract. What exactly is the downside? The "supposed" $10 million extra? That doesn't convey until after the season. So Springer is great and Walker is lousy. Are we saying Brad Stevens can't figure out Walker trade at the deadline to get that $10 million back to ownership?
I totally agree with the talent aspect. But earlier I indicated I think it's a little less than 50% they keep him. That to me is about the recent rise of Walsh and the time on the floor. Maybe they feel he's progressed a lot and with more PT will be even better.
Walker played with ridiculous lineups in Abu Dhabi and was trying to show his willingness to pass. The next two games in a more realistic setting he showed passing and scoring. He did his part.

That's what I'm banking on: Brad conveniently "forgets" about the deadline, citing that Saturday is a non-work day. What can they do? Fire him?

I pretty much agree. It seems Brads MO is to carry a 14 man regular season roster and then add a 15th man, with future years at the teams option, during the last week going into the playoffs. Is Lonnie an NBA player, pretty much yes. Is his talent at the level to change the teams roster management principles? No, and it’s a pretty clear no.

I think it ISN'T a 'clear no'...

I mean, the Celtics were thinking of trading for Lonnie Walker at the deadline, but instead they got X. Tillman...

Signing Walker now for 3 years at the minimum means you get his Bird Rights after those 3 years are up, and this Lonnie kid, is a phenomenal talent...the Celtics have never had a bench this deep, with all due respect respect to Bill Walton...a DEVELOPED Pritchard, Hauser and Walker bench are exactly what they needed to beat Golden State in 2022...I mean, jeez, what, are we afraid of winning?

And, why not sign him now, when all it will cost you is money? Otherwise, you might have to burn picks to get (maybe?) equivalent talent at the deadline, seems a waste...which is exactly why I don't think that that is the plan.

I usually scoff at people desiring a 'bench scorer' -- but watching Lonnie get into the paint off the dribble (or putting up awesome looking 3s) has me wanting him for exactly that purpose. Looks like he can be a bit of a combo guard for us -- why not? Spend the money. Spend spend spend, Spendy McSpendSpend!

Zendaya was also in Boston the other day. Doesn't mean she's playing for the Celtics anytime soon.

Kidding aside, sign him already. Not my money. Up to Mazzulla how he'd fit into the rotation.

Walker only costs us 10 million if we keep everybody else. My guess is that Springer’s 4 million gets sent away before end of season.

Exactly. The $10 million is smoke and mirrors. Giving Stevens all season to figure out this "problem" is something he figures out by lunch of the day he decides to make a move.

EDIT: Looks like he was there! That's pretty much a lock. No way they invite him just to cut him the next day lol.
