Lol telling me to do better and you’re ignoring 82 regular season games plus a 7 game playoff series last year….?

AB is playing decent but he’s still a project. I like his upside and I do think with more time he will become more aggressive on offense, or at least I hope so. It feels like a disservice to AB though to not have another point guard on the roster that can push him and teach him.

It’s about to get a whole lot harder if he was already in his head. Franz now has a contract to live up to and let’s not forget his last two meaningful games (Game 7 Playoffs & Olympics) he was a no show.

Franz was second in sweater vest points on a 47 win team. Goga and Cole made a fraction of the impact.

I think that's BIG (and I agree with your optimism about AB's upside)...podcast yesterday talking about how significant even a half season of playing with Chris Paul will likely have on Stephon Castle's PG potential (and also on Wemby's grasp of Pick n roll nuance). Castle is essentially Suggs coming out...super aggressive, questionable shooter, terrific athlete and defender, fierce under the bright lights and delivers in big games. If AB becomes the PG we all want him to be- it will be in spite of not playing behind a great one and breaking down film together, etc. PG's are generally little guys with all the little dirty tricks and shortcuts to level the playing field. That's really veteran stuff...Brunson, CP3, FVV all fit that mold and would be priceless for AB and/or Suggs. Maybe Cory Joseph has some of that to share - but he's clearly second tier or lower in that regard. It's hard to have a role model that can't actually get on the floor and deliver. Jingles showed enough wisdom on and off the court that I think that was a good, if brief, chapter for AB, Suggs, Cole.

I'm sure Weltman monitored that closely in his "negotiations"

It's a survey metric from the board you are posting on. Highly relevant.Skybox wrote:eyriq wrote:Skybox wrote:

The sweater vest is better than any advanced stats metrics

Re: The German elephant in the room.
I’m not worried about Franz per se based on preseason games…
HOWEVER, landing a max contract sets a level of expectations that will follow. Franz needs to show more consistency proving that he’s a 3-level scorer and a true primary/lite secondary option.

This was a problem last season for him as well and he didn’t have the same expectations he will this season. The heat just got turned up on Franz and I don’t think it’s realistic to expect him all the sudden to hit those shots he’s missing at near a consistent enough clip.

(despite the fact it only tracks who's good in wins and heavily factors in bias)

The main question people should be asking is:
IF Paolo is out injured can Franz shoulder the offense in WINS without him? To me, that’s the mark of a max level player if we are talking about a guy that is pretty good defensively and in that category of players worth that kind of money.
This is coming from someone that doesn’t believe Jaylen Brown is worth a max contract.
We will have to see very obvious progress this season compared to last year IMO.

Exactly because of this, actually. Think of each brain as a model that takes the game and results and outputs the three most important players, and the aggregation as an ensemble modeling approach to balance out the bias. No statistic is going to beat this board's collective knowledge! As to the focus on wins, that's the inference space, winning.

Re: The German elephant in the room.
Giving him a max was one hell of a gamble that I wouldn’t have taken considering the shooting performance he delivered all of last year (and got even worse in the Olympics). No one knows how it will turn out but we’ll soon find out. It will be a disaster if that shot doesn’t start falling.
Let’s hope it doesn’t evolve into whatever is going on with Mikal Bridges right now.

Re: The German elephant in the room.
Every piece of evidence we have says he is worth the max. Him regressing to a non-max-worthy player would be a colossal fall off. I don't think we're appreciating how good he is given how young he is.thelead wrote:Giving him a max was one hell of a gamble that I wouldn’t have taken considering the shooting performance he delivered all of last year (and got even worse in the Olympics).
