To bench Cole or Gary early on for Jett/TDS/Caleb?
I think it is pretty clear Jett is doing everything to earn playing time. Judging by early rotations he is the odd man out. Besides the unfortunate injury how long do you think the leash is for Cole and Gary and does Coach have the guts to bench the veteran guys?
Gary I see being a lot easier to bench and use as a filler. Cole seems to be a vital part of our bench but he really struggled to end the season and playoffs. This is a good problem to have!

Re: Does Coach have the guts?
My read of things is that Harris and Cole are trending towards reduced roles. Here is what that means to me.
1. Cole isn't the 6th man. He'll be played more when he's on a heater, less otherwise. I think his place as a core sweater vest points getter is over.
2. Harris is the 10th man. He'll be rested and Jett will get the call up as the 11th man. Jett will be in rotation full-time by Christmas. Jett will end up top 6 in sweater vest points.

I'm not ready to give up on Cole. At the end of the day, he still shot 44/34/83 last season. I just wish coach would stop asking him to facilitate because he's not good at all at that.

Harris is going to be 1st off the bench lol

Probably not, it's very rare for an NBA coach of a non-tanking team to play the youngest players as much as the team fans online want. Go to any subforum here and there is almost always a lot of "why is coach not playing the young guys enough" talk.

Fair point. If I think about a ranking on minutes I'd have it:three3d wrote:eyriq wrote:My read of things is that Harris and Cole are trending towards reduced roles. Here is what that means to me.

Harris is going to be 1st off the bench lol
1. Paolo/Franz
3. Suggs
4. KCP
5. WCJ
So then minutes for backups would be reversed, but with finesse due to versatility.
1. JI
2. AB
3. Cole
4. Moe/Harris
This is what I expect.
The lineup flow would be like:
Suggs/KCP/Franz/Paolo/WCJ
Suggs/AB/Franz/Paolo/JI
AB/Cole/Franz/Paolo/JI
AB/Cole/Harris/JI/Moe

Benching anyone for Caleb would be stupid.
Gary seems solid in his 2nd unit role and fits the KCP lite role.
Vets with Black makes sense.
TDS may not be a 100% ready yet.
I do believe Jett could force Mosely into a tough decision. We need play makers and self creators though which is one saving grace early on in the season for Cole. Also, we like to give guys a very very long leash to figure things out.
I’m not sure it’s that big of a guts call.

Injuries will be what gets Jett on the floor 1st like Black last year.

Re: Does Coach have the guts?
Most coaches play vets over youth when the quality is in the same range. I don't like the Harris signing but he is a impactful player and on most nights gonna have a better impact than Jett even with worse counting stats. I never liked Cole at all but he got a unique skill set on this roster. In some situation we gonna need him because no one else outside of Paolo can create space for himself like Cole.
Personally I would play AB and Jett over at least one of them and live with the short time errors for the greater good (future) but I doubt Coaches think like that. Mosley got a lot of pressure this season and coaches under pressure rely on vets they trust.

Cole was really good for the magic last year, was even a sixth man candidate early on. Dude has his flaws but his job as microwave scorer, for a bench that got the Magic to the playoffs, is really underappreciated.
I feel like Jett will play over Gary at some point during the season but that will take time and dependent on Jett's defense.
And feel I feel like TDS will get plenty of playing time playing behind Franz.
Black is the only person I worry about not getting mins playing behind Suggs and Cole unless he plays behind Franz which will hurt TDS.

I'm really hoping that TDS and/or Jett are able to take Harris's spot as the backup 3 at some point in the season.

This! Him taking a step back on having to be "the playmaker" and hopefully doing so with Black would help him greatly this season. And yep.... I do see AB as the main facilitator in the second unit.
