Lakers Convert Quincy Olivari To Two-Way Contract; Waive Colin Castleton

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sat Oct 19, 2024 8:19 pm

The Los Angeles Lakers have converted guard Quincy Olivari to a two-way contract. Olivari was previously signed to an Exhibit 10 contract.

The 6-foot-3 guard went undrafted out of Xavier at the 2024 NBA Draft. Olivari impressed throughout Summer League and the preseason to earn his spot with the Lakers.

To create the roster spot to sign Olivari, Los Angeles waived center Colin Castleton. The Lakers willingness to waive Castleton is, in part, related to the team's belief that Christian Koloko will be cleared to resume his career.

Koloko was signed to a two-way contract earlier this offseason. The 7-foot center missed all of last season due to a blood clot issue. Koloko is reportedly feeling good and ready to resume his playing career but is still awaiting clearance from the NBA's Fitness to Play panel.

i actually liked Castleton. i think he'll get a 2-way contract from another team though. he is an underrated passer for a big man.

he’s not an NBA player. great game for college ball but in the league it’s a no go. he has no specialty that he can hang his hat on. he’s just below average to average in every aspect of the game

I'm not sure I would say he's lacking skillsets as much as he simply cannot handle the physicality of the NBA.

I don't see that changing, either. It's not like the guy is only 19. He's already 24.

Castleton needs to give up on the NBA and go to a league where the big men aren't as tall and hefty. China and Taiwan come to mind.

I think a lot of us fans have been rooting for Castleton to earn his way to the main team. I definitely have been.

If he was younger, I would still hold out hope for that. There's just not many Claxton types out there that can manage to be impactful with such a slender frame.

It doesn't help him that the Lakers specifically need a bulky center to offset some of those minutes for AD. He might do better in different circumstances. But, I still think his lack of a strong base holds him back. Proven centers will muscle him around, etc.

I genuinely hope he proves me wrong.

100% agree with you there. I hope Koloko can make an impact for this team. Still have Wood although I am not a believer in him anymore.
