On the officiating here are my thoughts:

Although I am gutted for Phee (seeing her puffy face at the post-press conference actually made me feel some type of way) and the Lynx, I think it’s important to point out that the officiating in the WNBA overall is a problem, not just this game.

Hell, I remember thinking the Fever vs Sun series was a god damn rugby match. To which I don’t mind tbh, but be CONSISTENT!

I don’t think it’s fair to knock on the Liberty for their hard fought win. I don’t think it’s fair for Liberty fans that have been riding hard for their team, they can’t control that officiating.

I do feel like Phee should’ve won finals MVP though!

Congrats Liberty fans!

Congratulations New York Liberty!!! Awesome for them to get their first WNBA Championship!

Back to Back Finals appearances. Need to retool around Sabrina, Stewie, JJ & Fiebich to try to get another one before the big 2026 free agent shake up.

When you are in the biggest media outlet in the US, and everyone wants your team to finally get over the hump, you get over the hump.

Shame the 2nd best team won solely because of the referees.

Then you have idiots like Candice Parker tweeting about a 8-second violation when the clock was still at 16 seconds when the ball crosses mid-court.

Idiots, Idiots everywhere.

If I ever own a zoo I'll have the Zebra's who played for the New York Liberty in a 6' x 6' cage.

Said it a few times and will continue. Look at the player salaries. What do people think the ref salaries are? Surely not attracting the cream of the crop.

Hopefully with higher player salaries, TV contracts, more at stake, the referee salaries and talent will commensurately rise.

Where were you when the Lynx got a huge FT disparity in Game 4? It's crazy how ppl are coming out of the woodwork to denigrate the Liberty while ignoring the fact that the officiating has been terrible in the final two games.

Also, here is a summary of the OT session:

Courtney Williams went 0-3 FG in OT, 1 TO. She was flat out terrible.

Hiedeman had two turnovers in OT.

McBride had a bad TO, missed her only shot attempt

Lynx had a 24 sec violation in OT

Collier's only FGA in OT got tossed by Sabally

Liberty got called for 3 personals in the final 2 mins, 4 fouls in total in OT. The Lynx didn't get any fouls called on them until the final 13 secs.

Cry harder.

Congrats Liberty! Was an amazing series. Both teams should be proud.

As far as officiating, I watch so much basketball I've somehow become desensitized by weird calls and just see it as part of the game. Otherwise I'd go nuts and I try to avoid that. I got offline after the game last night and didn't even know people were mad.

Enjoy your championship, Liberty fans.

FT disparity typically has to do with style of play. The Lakers have had massive FT disparities for the past 2 seasons, not because the Refs love them, but because they shoot few 3's, play in the paint, and AD/LeBron and excellent at playing defense without fouling while Dlo/Reaves don't play any defense.

Any analysis which simply looks at FTA as an analysis of referees isn't a data point in my opinion.

But yeah, I'm crying. I'm from Minnesota--we choke or get injured every time we have a great team aside from the Lynx (1998 Vikings, 2009 Vikings, 2017 Vikings, 2022 Vikings, 2004 Timberwolves, 2024 Timberwolves, ect).

I'm allowed to cry and vent. And then, to add insult to injury, we have Candace Parker posting videos of a "8 second rule" when the Lynx passed half-court with 16 seconds on the shot clock.

So yeah I'm sad and salty and I have no other place to vent besides a basketball forum :D

This has nothing to do with you, Liberty fans or the Liberty team.

Foul disparity in a single game or overall lack of quality officiating in the league aside, hands down the most embarrassing part of this this for the league is they had the opportunity to get the right call in slow motion replay and they still got it wrong. Hard to find many if any examples of a single play that can decide the championship is able to be reviewed and they still can’t manage to get the call right. There will always be poor or objective calls that are wrong in realtime that’s human error but the fact that they went to replay saw the obvious missed travel (which sure they can’t change) and then miss a clean block is embarrassing and unacceptable for the league. If you can’t get the right call when it’s clear in 4K then get rid of replay because it serves no purpose.

Out of anyone on the Liberty, I'm happy for Sloot. She went through a lot this season personally so I can only imagine how much emotion she's dealing with right now.
