What would be the relief on the Taxes, if we Traded Springer, with no one coming back?
And, isn't Springer a higher Tax liability than Walker?

There's no question that Walker is a better player, Right?

The problem is that no one wants Springer unless the Celtics pay (2nd round pick or two) to move him. Springer is viewed as a salary dump.

Based on what?

Common sense.

Springer getting traded to save some money so Walker could be signed was a tale weaved by fans (incl. me) and bloggers. It was pure speculation.

What isn't was the possibility of Walker getting waived and spending some time in Maine. Walker himself admitted so.

It's fine. We all have our ways to cope when our wishes don't come true.

Springer makes more than the minimum and hasn't shown much in the league, his value as an upcoming RFA isn't high at all. It's why the Bucks can't get anything for Marjon Beauchamp, teams aren't going to give you anything for a young player that they know you've soured on since they haven't played well enough to justify a new deal.

Teams ask for a 2nd to take these guys because they know they have all the leverage

Then just keep 'em for now. No need to give up and sell low on a player that you've invested in and still has potential. Paying someone else to take him off your hands is what bad teams do. Neither Springer nor Beauchamp are sunk cost yet.

We've got at least until the trade deadline to get a look at Springer.

Come to Springerstan, the weather is nice here!

It's just wishful thinking on my part. Basically, Walker plays a season in Europe, and that doesn't change the Celtics situation for cap space.

I think Euroleague goes til May, so he'd be booked. Then maybe something opens up for him in Boston next summer if there is mutual interest and roster/cap space. A lot can happen in the time -- like banner #19 8-)

Special mentions from Mazzulla for Walsh, Davison, Peterson, and Queta. The Celtics have a stronger pipeline than many people realize.

Usually, even before a much-desired FA clears waivers, we'd already hear about the team(s) lining up to sign them. What is happening with Lonnie??

Doubtful we find a better 15th man who would make more of an impact in the playoffs than Lonnie.

If Brad doesn't have something up his sleeve with some bench depth this season, this could go down as his worst move as GM.

That's not all we have for bench offense. Ever heard of Hauser or Horford? Tillman and Kornet are good. Pritchard appears to be improved this season too..and does more than half court heaves.

We were like 10 points better than the 2nd place team last year in bench net rating. Spare me.

Green89 wrote:We will be going up against much better teams

That remains to be seen

In his playoff run with the Lakers, he edged Sam Hauser's last season stats in the playoffs in mostly every offensive category. Bested him in overall FG% at 48% to Sam's 43%. He also won the Lakers two critical games against Golden State. He's miles better than Pritchard, and the only reason I can think of as to why our team and the league are staying away from giving him a contract, must be some concern not publicly disclosed with his health.

Jake Fischer says he heard that the Celtics gauged Springer's trade value on cutdown day and that he still might be traded at the deadline and then the Celtics could sign Lonnie (or another minimum).

Makes sense. I don’t see anything with Springer. Obviously he’s still young, but he’s in his 4th season already and really hasn’t shown anything other than a handful of defensive highlights which isn’t a major priority with guys like Holiday, White and Brown all being plus to elite defensively as is.

Lonnie I think was a guy that had potential to get hot in a pinch during a playoff game and carry you for a bit. That’s not happening with Springer.

Jack and Sam reported on this today:

I'm all about giving Springer a chance to succeed, even if it's mainly to raise his trade value. It kind of sucks for him to be the black sheep here, but he's got a ring, championship experience, and an entire career ahead of him.

Looking at the bench play the first two games, it's easy to make a case that the need for that extra scorer when the starters are resting, is a compelling case. If the rumors are true, I'll root for both of the two guys, but if I had to choose, I would have Walker on the team.

So until February, it looks like Springerstan it is.

Here is the tough obstacle. No matter what you thought of Springer's game before, it is going to be really hard for Springer to even get a chance. Barring a bad streak of Injuries, he is so low on the Depth chart. As I stated a few times before.. The NBA needs a team in Vegas and maybe Seatle again. The League is just so deep with talent.
2 things need to go.. my lack of spell check and Joe..

I watched the video. In the last days before Walker let go I said it was slightly less than 50% the Celtics would keep him. The good preseason play of Walsh, the combination of Springer s contract/ defensive possibilities, and the desire or orders of ownership (Irv Grousbeck) not to spend any more all weigh into my opinion.
Today I still think it is less than 50%. But it is a number greater than zero. And it should be. Ask yourself this question - when the Celtics didn't score a single point between 8:12 and 3:33 in the Pistons game and you wanted to change the momentum (and win the game), would you put in Jordan Walsh, Jalen Springer, or Lonnie Walker? Is this even a serious question?
What we get from the video is that Springer has been in trade talks. This can be called "routine" but I doubt it. The closer to the trade deadline, the better things are for the Celtics. Is it possible the Celtics pulled aside Walker's agent and said, " we are working on this. We WILL find a way to get you signed but you have to be quiet and we can't tell you how."
I have already professed my faith in Brad Stevens. But what I'll never know is if Irv Grousbeck has drawn a line in the sand, whether it is for himself or future owners. Or is it possible that there is another player down the line that is targeted. The Walker question doesn’t totally go away until he is signed by the Celtics or another team.
Brad Stevens on fans who want the Celtics to tank: "I don’t think they’ll like me all that much then."
