Okay, but you're not listening.

Eddie Jones wasn't a #1. He wasn't a focal option and he didn't have the on-ball game to do those things. Expecting them of him is foolish. It isn't surprising that he couldn't do those things. He had a fairly specific and defined set of skills. Him being into his 30s definitely didn't make that better as his athleticism diminished.

On a title team I wouldn't even trust him to be a 3rd go to option on a team. And that goes for the 99-00 version of Eddie Jones as well. I don't trust him to consistenly knock down big shots in the playoffs when stars are doubled and kick it out to him.

Then that's your business. He hit open shots. That's what he did. At 40%, variance is significant. That's what happens when you shoot a lot of long 2s and 3s. He's a dude with a very well-defined profile. If you asked him to go beyond it, he couldn't. But don't mistake shooting variance for significant issue with his performance.

As i said earlier i am not critical of him not being a #1 option. I am critical of him for even faltering as a secondary or third option. Given this is about the 99/00 peak version of him, he as the All Star shouldnt have been getting upstaged by a aging overweight DC in his 30s like what happened vs Philly. As MiamiBulls stated on offense he couldnt even be counted on to exploit undersized mismatches in Iverson and Ollie.

He had not only the time in the league but the physical tools to get better at his glaring flaws skillwise that were evident from the get go and imho he never really did. A guy as athletic as him should've at some point developed a handle and evolved beyond being a catch n shoot 3 pt shooter and relying on transition buckets.

No, you're critical of him not showing a skillset which he never possessed, that isn't the same thing.

What is it you think a catch-and-shoot guy was gonna do against smaller guys?

Handles are the thing developed the least in the league among emphasized skills. They aren't intuitive, they're all feel-based. Executing a technical dribble versus understanding how to employ ball handling against a defense to get where you want to go on the court isn't something that typically develops once a player has become an adult.

Jones didn't possess those skills because he didn't evolve as a player, that was on him. He was just too passive. Catch n shoot or not, someone with Jones' exceptional athletic ability should be able to post up 6'0" tall A.I. at will.

Or at least develop some midrange offense inside the 3pt line.

This remains a weird criticism to me because we really don't see a lot of development in players in terms of handle or isolation game the majority of the time once they hit the NBA. Nor do we typically see a lot of post development. LEAST of all in secondary/tertiary players like Eddie Jones. Had he that sort of capacity to improve, he would not have remained in the same tier of player.

Your expectations are a little out of sorts there, IMHO.
