BOOM! Good to see him locked in long term. That’ll prove to be good value for him, too.

Zero chance. Paolo will get max.
I meant with the designated rookie rule. But after researching it seems that's gone in the new CBA.
Not changing this Sig until the Orlando Magic win a championship (Technically Started 1-30-08)

some fans when we have to pay guys slightly based on potential combined with current play for an extremely talented young team that isn't a big market FA destination:

If Suggs is an overpay I'd hate to hear your take on Franz!
We paid ahead on both of them...but both are very capable, even likely, to make those into good deals. Hopefully, they've both got an old school, gratitude-based outlook on the faith Weltman and ownership just pitched them. They're both grounded guys - I expect them both to work even harder to not disappoint.

Re: Vote on Suggs extension.
I posted a couple of days ago that if Suggs wanted 30 per year he'd get it. By forcing the magic into it in restricted free agency if he had to. I Noted that the only advantage for the magic to wait was the little bit of cap space they'd keep available by going into it with his cap hold instead of 30 per. If this is an ascending deal with raises each season my guess is it'll start around his cap hold anyways. Glad the FO isn't wasting any more time on this. Suggs is a keeper. I'm happy for him to get this deal and happy for the magic to have him for the next several years.
It will certainly be interesting how the magic balance the rest of the roster over the next several years though with PB/Franz/Suggs eating up a strong majority of cap space. The restructured JI deal could become a massive difference maker. Front loading him this year and keeping him on a bargain deal could be what puts the magic in the top 4 in the east for several seasons. AB/Jett/TDS panning out as just decent players on rookie scale contracts could be the cherry on top.
It's a good day to be a magic fan.

Re: Vote on Suggs extension.
The salary cap is going up. After several years of 10% cap increase, 30M might sound like a bargain. Suggs is our heart and soul on defense. Plus he has way more upside than KCP. Good move, Magic!

Re: Vote on Suggs extension.
good deal for team and player, glad they got it done.
Franz's deal kind of worries me more. Almost certainly would have earned a max, but if Franz shoots 25% from 3 this year, there is going to be a whole lot of skepticism creeping in (suppose the same could be said of Suggs, though he's not coming off 2 bad shooting seasons and bad international shooting too) Didn't really see the reason to give him a max now other than keeping him happy. If i had to bet I'd say Franz back to a neutral three point shooter, and if he does it's gping to be a huge help to himself and his teammates.
The rest of the extensions all sounded about right. I think most people thought Houston was going to pass and keep its cap open. The Jalen Green is kind of a surprise, thats a lot of money even its just 3 years...guess its always tradable. Even though Sengun is a center thats a good deal. Kispert is going to shoot, so i guess that is fair, i am not sure i see him as a starter on a decent team. Johnson is a really interesting guy, 5/150. Really curious to see what he does this year, he should have got some most improved votes last year.

In all likelihood Paolo/Franz/Suggs are going to take up no more than 67% of the cap for the next 5 years, and if the ratio of salary cap to 2nd apron holds into the future, the trio would cost less than 50% of the 2nd apron. There are a lot ways to build a team around that, especially if ownership is willing to spend.

So before PB/Franz/Suggs and even JI are due for they're next contracts pretty much the whole cast of other players will be due for new deals. So can we continue paying guys like Cole/WCJ/KCP/MOE/Goga and give raises to the guys on rookie scale contracts like AB/Jett/TDS and not be over the aprons in a few years?

Franz contract kicks in next season and his brother has a team option next season! Interesting...

I just hope he wins a ring here so we can retire his jersey.

That will be great for creating some apron room when the time comes for AB and Jett to extend.
