it's just weak to say we are a finesse team now when really we just played an ugly style or hoops last year

Yeah KAT isn't a soft player at all. He is actually pretty physical from what I have seen.

We lost Ihart regardless and Mitch was going to miss the start of the year regardless so we always were going to have to change our offensive identity from being reliant on offensive rebounds.

The trade certainly didn't make us a worse offensive rebounding team. If anything KAT is a better rebounder than Randle. Now we will be reliant on spacing more so I wouldn't necessarily say "softer" team. I would say more skilled team. Which isn't a bad thing. Our offense last year was a lot of smoke and mirrors because it relied on Brunson to do pretty much everything (after Randle went down) and then our 2nd best offensive play was a missed shot because we were such a great off rebounding team. Not sure how sustainable that would have been considering Ihart and Mitch weren't going to be here to start the year trade or no trade.

I also don't see how the moves made us worse defensively.

KAT I think is slightly better than Randle and Mikal is replacing DD which is an improvement defensively.

I'm looking at these moves solely on there own accord...you can't compare last year to this year because Ihart was bouncing regardless so we were always going to play a different style especially with Mitch hurt as well.

"finesse" team - not relying on offensive rebounds as our 2nd option

or there is just some misconception that randle is a tough player. when he melts during the end of games or goes in on staff/players. now kat can also be a dummy - just different ways - such as stupid fouls and shooting his team out of games. but this isn't a drop off in "toughness" just switching up problems. none of which is making the knicks a softer team.

no team with brunson, jHart, og and thibs coaching it is going to be "finesse"

Yeah I think they just think since KAT can shoot a lot better than Randle he's "softer". More skilled yes.

And KAT isn't without his faults...otherwise we wouldn't have been able to move Randle/DD for him. Like you mentioned he can be a dummy with silly fouls. Especially with how thin our front court is without Mitch right now and Precious...he has to stay on the floor and no silly stupid fouls.

But Brunson/Hart our tough as nails. OG is a super physical player. Like you said most of all Thibs won't coach a "soft" team.

Just because our offensive style was forced to change doesn't mean we are no just a "finesse" team.

Guan0 capping as usual :noway:

KAT’s defense at the 5 is way more detrimental than Randle’s at the 4. All of KAT’s teams at the 5 have been in the bottom of the league. That hasn’t been the case with Randle at the 4 under Thibs. KAT also playing like wcf KAT isn’t helping us offensively either.

So far Mikal has looked worse than Donte on both ends:

Ugly hoops > losing ball

what position was randle going to play here melo?????? and then be honest with yourself would our defense be any better in that scenario. if you can't be honest let me help you - no. no it wouldn't. you're welcome.

and this is some bullsht(So far Mikal has looked worse than Donte on both ends) you tried slipping in thinking we wouldn't notice. cause in no universe is donte a better defender than mikal. be better

Keep that same energy about the team. We will be top 2 in offense top 5 defense. Acting like losing Randle makes us worse is crazy. We were good with Ihart who learned how to play defense here. Survived without Mitch for long periods and now have 2 all nba defenders and we will be worse? My only worry is team rebounding.

Team identity did change some but superior talent will always eclipse toughness. It is a concern cause Randle and DVo will tough and the two on the team who did not think twice about getting into the face of an opposing player.

But I don't see a Thibs team being soft punks. Someone or two will step up and bring and replace that toughness.

If Randle was playing the 4 in this scenario who's playing the 5 right now? Jericho Sims?

And we would be better defensively with a Sims/Randle frontcourt?

I don't think anyone believes that for one second.

Team identity is can’t leave anybody open. Dropping bigs in paint not going to work against us.

Perimeter defense, corner 3’s and efficiency our backbone.

Randle does not show any toughness in the playoffs nor does he execute.... So there's that.

I. Hart bounced and there was nothing we can do to stop that...he wanted cash we couldn't pay.

Donte showed a lot of grit, and he hit some big threes. I think Deuce steps into his shoes.

Towns and bridges are more talented than Randle and divincenzo. And correspondingly, each has a better playoff resume than who we sent out.

I'm just happy Randle isn't on the Knicks, the season is off to a great start just off that fact alone.

Donte morphed into some all world defender the moment he left the Knicks and landed on the Timberwolves.

I like Donte A LOT as a player. I value sharpshooting 3 point players who can do more than just shoot 3s.

Donte was a willing defender who definitely got in passing lanes.
He was an average defender, which is fine.

He was NOT an excellent or very good defender.

Will Bridges superior defense and mid range/layup game over Donte offset just how dangerous Donte was from 3? Not sure.

At least YT content creators and journalists could be, you know, honest.

We lost an aggressive dribbler in Randle. Lost so much toughness. Bro don’t even box out give me a break. Now with Donte we lost some energy.

Look the contrast in "toughness" between Brunson and Randle.
