Dejounte Murray Allowed To Play His 'Real Position' With Pelicans

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Oct 22, 2024 1:01 pm

New Orleans Pelicans guard Dejounte Murray is settling in nicely with his new team after an offseason trade from the Atlanta Hawks. One thing aiding the transition is that Murray is back to playing his natural position of point guard.

"In Atlanta, I was in the corner and on the wings, and I made the best of it," Murray said. "Here, they are allowing me to play my real position. Playing point guard. Keeping everything organized. And making dudes better. And doing what I do best."

Murray was in trade rumors for much of last season, despite signing a four-year veteran extension that starts with this season. His fit with the Hawks never materialized as hoped for in two-ballhandler lineups alongside Trae Young. The Pelicans acquired Murray in exchange for Dyson Daniels, Larry Nance Jr., Cody Zeller, E.J. Liddell and two first-round picks.

Lol, you call this shade?
He had to defer to Trae; that's a factual statement.

Murray was playing his natural position when he led the Hawks for the final two months of the season (with Young sidelined due to his finger surgery) to get Atlanta into the playoffs and was their best player in the first-round defeat to the Celtics.

ATL deserves shade as an organization. Trae has his deficiencies but they could be overcome in a strong organization.

TOTALLY AGREE. he also doesnt know how to set screens(angling, flipping, holding, ghosting) use them off the ball, box out, he has to spot up from 30 feet away because if he stands at the line he cant get it off cleanly. he doesnt ask for switches off the ball when it would benifit him to do so. This guy is like 26 and hasnt been coached. This is stuff we do with 15 year olds now. Like what gives? thats organizational.

Well, McMillan always runs the most basic offensive sets in the NBA... but I expected more from Snyder. Maybe the Murray/Trae thing was really hanging this thing up. I'll give it til Christmas.
