Great detail Fats as always. Forgive me as I take the lazy man’s approach. My predictions are conditional;

> If the Hornets stay predominantly healthy with their rotation players, they win 33 games. That’s a pretty big step up for this team. I’d predict even more but not convinced their defense is strong enough to get them higher.
> If we get partial seasons from several rotation players, and/or key injury losses from the M and M’s (Melo, Miller, Mark, Miles, Mann), I predict 24 wins.

Miller is leading scorer. Mann surprises and overtakes Green in average minutes played. Miles gets traded by the deadline.

MY HOPES AND DREAMS? We have very healthy players and their defense becomes a strength to match the offensive production. Melo demonstrates he’s a legit star, Miller takes a sophomore leap into all-star status, Mann and Green are declared the best trade steals of the decade, Salaun amazes with significant PT second half of the season, and Mark Williams proves he is a rising force at center.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

i feel like i have to make two separate lists of predictions, one for a scenario where Mark and Melo just can't stay on the floor, and one where they do. Whatever, I guess I'll think of the scenario where they play like 55 games each and they overlap for maybe 35.

35-47, 10 seed, lose in the play-ins to ATL but not a total embarrassment this time

Leaders:
ppg:
Melo: 23
Miller: 22
Bridges: 20
Mark: 14
Mann: 14
Grant: 10
a bunch of guys in the 6-8 range (Green, Vasa, Nick, Salaun late in the season, etc)

rpg:
Mark: 11
Melo: 7
Richards: 7
Bridges: 7

apg:
Melo: 9
Vasa: 5

Awards:
LaMelo all-star (but doesn't get to play due to injury)

NBA Awards:
MVP: Luka (narrowly misses averaging a ~32ppg triple-double)
DPOY: Wemby
ROY: Risacher

East playoffs:
1 BOS def IND, def PHI, def MIL
2 NY def MIA
3 MIL def ORL, def NY
4 CLE
5 PHI def CLE
6 ORL
7 IND def ATL
8 MIA def IND to claim 7
9 ATL def CHA
10 CHA

West playoffs:
I don't have a clue about what happens, but it's going to be wild. I expect seeds 4-12 to be separated by just a few games, around 42-50 wins.
DAL def OKC

Finals:
BOS def DAL 4-2, Luka FMVP

Other Hornets related predictions:

Charlotte plays > .500 ball when Mark plays and < .300 when he doesn't

Melo has another streak where he plays like a fringe MVP, and then gets hurt again because why wouldn't he

Melo and Miller each have a game with 10+ 3s made this season. They also are each on pace to break Kemba's record of 260 3s in a season, but fall short because they miss games. (i.e. > 3.17 made 3s per game)

Hornets take more 3s than any other team, but are only 10th-15th in 3P%

Hornets finish between 12-15th in ORtg, 15-18 in DRtg, but lose games because we get killed on the glass any time Mark isn't in.

Tre Mann blows up for 35 points at least once while filling in for injured starters

all-nba:

Luka, SGA, Giannis, Tatum, Jokic
Steph, Ant, KD, LeBron, Wemby
Mitchell, Booker, KAT, Bam, Sabonis
(AD, Embiid, Zion, PG, Kawhi, etc don't qualify due to missing more than 17 games)
investigate Adam Silver

I'm lazy but I think with the amount of 3s Lamelo takes he averages 27 and gets an all star birth. We win 44 games.

Its all about health. Could win 44 or win 24.

33-49

LaMelo per game averages look good before his annual injury woes

BKilla gets noticed by national media, puts up high volume 3s and nearly 22 PPG but his defense and driving need a few more years to develop

Miles gets traded at the deadline to a desperate contender

Mark Williams plays 20 games and we cut ties at the end of the year. Sicknote

Tre Mann takes a leap

Tidjane Salaun is statistically one of the worst NBA players by advanced stats such as EPM/LEBRON at the end of the year

Josh Green will be in and out of the rotation. Before the trade deadline Green and Miles Bridges will be packeged for Brandon Ingram.

If the team is having fun and winning LaMelo will play a bunch of games. If things suck again, he will stay home and ride gocarts.

Brandon Miller will shoot over 40% from 3.

I don't have my finger on the pulse of the league as much as I did 5 years ago, but I feel IF LaMelo doesn't miss a couple dozen games, IF Mark Williams is truly back to normal and plays a normal amount of games, this is an above .500 team. maybe a pollyannaish view of things, but the team does not lack for talent, and I like Charles Lee and the culture he is bringing to the team.
