2024-25 Philadelphia 76ers Check In Thread (Your Current Feel on the team)

Post#1 » by Mik317 » Tue Oct 22, 2024 1:47 pm

Hey yall

been AWOL from this board this offseason. Some life **** mostly but just in general feeling a malaise about this team (and sport lol)

But here we go another long arduous season of what will surely be full of ups and downs, us learning a new medical term, getting our hopes up that Morey will make a big move despite the reality of it all, overhyping whatever scraps he does get at the deadline and hoping that THIS YEAR is THE YEAR that Biid doesn't come down with SARS right before the playoffs.

What a time.

But no seriously I can't really place my own expectations this year for the first time in forever. It could be the afforementioned life **** taking a toll on me but still. We got Paul Freaking George yo....sure he's already hurt but still. And yet idk. In theory the team finally has the athletic wings that can do stuff I have dreamed of. Maxey continues to get better and add to his game...and while he does have some Doc-ism in him, Nurse is easily our "best" coach we had in over a decade (since Larry no?). Biid is even saying and apparently doing all the right things. This should be the team that finally doesn't NEED Biid to average 35 to squeak by teams...but the elephant in the room may be that Biid may be on the down swing and those athletic wings either can't shoot that well or are old or former Heat (known for their immediate fall off outside those systems).

Then there is the rest of the conference. The Celtics are sadly very good and the way they play (i.e jack up all the 3s) is tough to beat. I think the Knicks are probably a bit overrated BUT they do have the gaggle of wings and a guy who can win a game in the playoffs. The Pacers have been a rough matchup for us and the Magic have size to make things ugly. The Heat are the Heat as I am sure they will find some demon off the street to hit gamewinners and ****...and it feels like all of those teams still have ammo to improve and ammo that we can't beat (don't quote me on this tho)

AND YET there is the simple answer of PG isn't Tobias ,Maxey is better and Biid finally felt what being carried felt like and that may be all we need lol.

I always say it but it would be great If my bitch ass brain didn't feel so attached to this stupid team because it will be a facinating season just from afar

But yeah for the first time in forever I don't enter a season being down on the team (Horford year) expecting them to suck and being proven right ( although that year has a crazy run IIRC lol) or waiting for the big trade to change everything and just enter a season with no idea how it will go.

What a time

I think you summed it up really well. It's hard to say exactly how it will go with all the changes and the constant injury risk hanging over 2 of their top 3 players. But there's plenty of reason to be excited too.

With Embiid I'm choosing to go with there's no active concern with the knee (I mean, any more than normal) and they have a plan for him, because frankly what's the point of not doing so lol.

I think if Maxey takes another step forward and becomes a Guy a lot of the other concerns become a little less meaningful. It seems like this inevitably will become his team and it's just a question of if it's this year versus down the road.

It'd be really nice if just one of these minimum guys became an Oubre-level value again. Really if that happens and the rest are all unplayable, I mean that wouldn't be ideal but it would probably be a net win.

The other teams are dealing with questions and injuries too but I think it's too early to really worry about them at this point. Just hope our team gets off to a good start.

Maybe this is the year no one forgets how to shoot or almost dies from a peanut allergy or gets hit by a car.

The Knicks loading up, Celtics the same as last year, and already Embiid, PG, and McCain are out...

I'm excited and intrigue in the season, but we're starting out on a very annoying foot.

I first started posting here more than two decades ago, back when I was in Junior and Senior High School. Fast forward to today, and life has changed dramatically. I recently had my first son a month ago and moved to a new country. Life got incredibly busy, and my time for posting here became limited. But then things slowed down when im slowly getting my balance here and in this new role, I realized how much I missed this space, so I started posting again recently.

This year, we finally have a clean slate, giving us a fresh start to build a team that addresses all the issues from past failures in the playoffs. We can learn from problems like poor spacing, a stagnant offense, lacking reliable second and third scoring options, playing with a non-threat 5th guy, rebounding struggles, and having weak defensive links. Most importantly, the team is now designed to give Embiid the rest he needs leading into the playoffs, which could be the biggest difference maker in our pursuit of the championship. I hope the team doesn’t overlook the importance of building chemistry, especially as we manage Embiid’s workload and focus on load management.

All I ask is for our team to give their best, and for us fans to finally enjoy the game without the looming worry about health issues.

Embiid and George both out tomorrow night.

Let "the softest team in the NBA" begin!

Better to have these injury woes in October than in late February.

I'm very indifferent. Think it's just the way the league has shifted over the years. No way I'd pay to watch regular season basketball.

I had higher than normal hopes for this year. The team was finally built with competent wings; Tobias is gone with a major upgrade in PG13. Maxey looks awesome. We have glue guys with a good coach. I was excited. I wasn't even concerns about the earlier Joel report b/c I thought he played in the Olympics, they extended him, no need to risk fluke injuries in a preseason game. He'll be there game 1. Then Shams' announcement happened.

Right now, I am about as apathetic as one can be. Team has again lied or covered up Joel's health after letting him play in the freaking Olympics and giving him a massive extension. Honestly, I never once thought about abandoning this team even through the Eddie Jordan then process era. But this, this constant BS by the team concealing injuries or making just dumb decisions with Joel's health. I'm ready to check out and find another team that doesn't do this crud to their fan base.

Ah, a proper meeting of the old washed denizens of the forum. Good luck on the life stuff Mik, congrats on the Kid 76ciology.

I feel like the team is in as good of a spot as its been before but I just can't allow myself to get excited. Partially because our stars have small injuries to start the season. Partially because, fool me once, shame on you. Fool me 25 straight seasons in a row, shame on me. I just can't objectively get fully hyped about this team's chances even though they are so talented. It sucks.

I think if they get Embiid to the playoff fully healthy they will win the title this season.

As is the case with every season, getting him there healthy is the hard part. One they have zero control over.

I have zero expectations and just want to watch some good basketball. Maybe I’ll get my hopes up later but for now I’m just looking forward to finally watching a well-constructed basketball team with a good coach.

I’m in a similar boat as 76ciology - first child, new house, and a new job. I’m living my life 15 mins at a time right now so I’m just excited to have basketball back for my decompression time at night.

I'm excited. Basketball is back and the Sixers have a legit contending roster with assets for a big move.

I'll enjoy watching chemistry develop from the rotation, watching the young guys and Yabuselle to see how they develop/perform, Maxey's growth, potentially historic games from Embiid and Maxey, and the excitement of the trade deadline.

The things that would bring me down are if injuries derail their regular season (like last year) and/or significant injuries in the playoffs. Now granted the latter will probably happen, but until then I'm going to enjoy the ride.

I think our starting 5 when healthy will be one of the top 2-3 lineups in the league, but that the big three will only play together ~45 games. I think we win 50 games and get to the ECF. Vibe-wise, I'm glad bball is back, but am not letting myself get excited until we see the big three on the floor together. And I reserve the right to have Philly-standard sports despair at any time.

I have been saying this for months.

Dont' see us winning anything as we have too many health and leadership/thougness concerns for the Embiid PG duo.

I am legit annoyed that they will just not get chemistry.

So pissed Joel's missing the opening week. That's just so stupid. They should just say what's going on
