I'll admit that don't understand the team vs city legalities at all well. One question I do have, is the League chivvying the Packers to play hard ball with the City, to prevent any precedent to be set or upset about who dictates how things are to be done?. Part of the League's financial success has been built on using the games popularity to leverage cities into doing things the Leagues way. The Packers are unique, but I think the League would prefer uniformity of how things are done

It has nothing to do with "liking" the Packers or not. The economic impact of an NFL team on a city of 107,000 is far greater than other teams/cities. The team doesn't have an owner with deep pockets. The huge increase in franchise values doesn't apply. They're self sustaining. So yeah it's posturing. No, the city/county shouldn't just throw money at the team but they'll work out a deal like they always do. They need each other. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Does Gute acquire a DL, CB, or OL player by the deadline?

Probably not.

Only thing I see them in market for would be another pass rusher and teams generally like to hold on to those

Green Bay activates DL Jonathan Ford off injured reserve
Oct 21, 2024 at 03:00 PM

The Green Bay Packers have activated DL Jonathan Ford off injured reserve/designated for return and released LS Matt Orzech (OR-zick). General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced the transactions Monday.

Orzech's erratic snaps were part of the kicking problem, and it is a good thing that Whelan is tall and has good hands(he's salvaged errant snaps several times)

Somebody's got to take Orzech's place soon

Reportedly just a procedural move and Orzech will be back later this week

Why? He's not very good. I know long-snappers are hard to come by, but there has to be better options out there

I can't answer the why because I'm with you, I wouldn't bring him back

Orzech has been inconsistent. Need to improve the LS position.

I know I'm not saying anything shocking here, but Gute really nailed the Kraft pick. That dude could end up being one of the best tight ends in the league.

I'd say he already is. Dude leads all TE's in broken tackles, and is #2 in explosive plays behind Kyle Pitts. All while being a plus-blocker in the run game. He's also the best example this season to illustrate how much PFF's grading system sucks (57.3 lol) in regards to certain positions.

Yeah that PFF score is crazy. I guess I'm an untrained eye but he's looked great all season.

I love his physical attitude, this O needed a dude like him for years.

Yea. I flat out don't understand that one. Kraft has been awesome this year

As each week progresses he's becoming more and more an integral part of the offense. Really love everything about Kraft.

If we are doing 90s era comparisons then the modern day love to kraft is the old favre to chewy.

I can't really think of a good comp for him to be honest. Dude is an absolute mountain of a man, but I think Musgrave being drafted right before him (9.78 RAS) made people forget just how much of an equally freakish athlete Kraft was at the combine (9.68 RAS). I know it's a cop-out for any awesome receiving TE who's also an elite run-blocker, but he honestly might just be bigger George Kittle.

One thing to factor in with any Crosby/Garrett discussion: is that either additon to the Packer roster should elevate the Packer record for 2025 draft picks. The Raiders/Cleveland may want a higher placement pick(s) than a late round choice

ESPN:

Chance to make playoffs: 76.7%
Projected first-round draft slot: 28
Schatz's key position of need: Cornerback

Adding, subtracting or sitting it out? Sitting it out. C'mon, this is the Packers. I think they could add a kicker, even after signing Brandon McManus, but they like their roster and believe it's ready to compete for a championship. The Packers are deep and young and not the kind of team that's looking to make any major splashes from the outside. -- Graziano

Who could be on the move? Defensive end Preston Smith. There have already been some reports that the Packers are shopping Smith, the second-oldest player on the team at 31, and are looking to add someone at his position to boost the pass rush. Smith has a big salary ($12 million this season, $12.6 million next), and his production has waned. He looks like a candidate to be released after the season, so perhaps the Packers can get something for him now. -- Rob Demovsky

Which player should they target? Panthers edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney. The Packers rank 30th in pass rush win rate, and Rashan Gary and Smith rank 39th and 43rd out of 50 qualifiers at edge. I'm sure Green Bay would like to rely more on 2023 first-round pick Lukas Van Ness, but if he qualified for that same list, he'd be tied for 47th.

Bringing in a 31-year-old Clowney might not sound ideal at first, but he's still disruptive. Though he has one sack, he has a 22.2% pass rush win rate at edge that would rank 10th if he qualified. Green Bay has the chance to make a Super Bowl run in 2024, but it's likely going to need more of a pass rush to get there. -- Walder

Clowney's nothing special but he could probably be had for a late third day pick.

I think Preston's been a pretty solid contributor this year despite the dip in raw production. Don't really see the need to move him unless you're getting a legitimate upgrade like Crosby. Clowney ain't it.
