Last season we had 5 end-of-bench guys that some of us said were completely useless. 4 of them are literally out of the NBA right now (OPJ, Thad, Flynn, McD) and the last one (Temple) is essentially not an NBA player. Raps are just doing him a solid because he would never make 3.3M as a first-time assistant coach.

The only difference with this year's bench is that it is not yet factual that a bunch of them are useless. Based on pedigree and draft position, it is statistically likely that a lot of them will indeed show the same thing. I am hopeful that there is at least one surprise though. We keep saying that "the bench can't possibly be worse than last season" and yet that has proven wrong in consecutive years now.

Does it SEEM like we are a bit deeper? Sure, but that is because most of us are relieved the past scrubs are gone. Even just a 10-15 game injury to a starter, specifically Scottie or Poeltl, and the season is toast IMO.

If you took last years bench and this years bench and ranked them, it heavily favors this year.

Our game 1 bench was GTJ / Precious / McDaniels / Flynn.

Mitchell > Flynn
Brown > GTJ
Olynyk > Precious
Ochai (or Dick) > McDaniels

If OPJ actually played it could have been different, potentially.

If any of those guys are better than their 2023 comparison, it’s honestly not by much, if at all.

You gotta be kidding me

Flynn + McDaniels are straight up not on NBA teams right now. Mitchell and Agbaji were both rotation pieces on good teams as recently as last season.

GTJ is a guy I thought was overly hated, but he simply is not as good as Brown who was a key contributor to a championship team.

Olynyk is simply just a much better basketball player than Precious. Precious in theory should be better than he truly is, but Olynyk is a much superior offensive player.
What an absolute failure and disaster this franchise is, ran by one of the most incompetent front offices in the league.

Must you be so dramatic?

Davion played 15 mpg. 9th guy in the rotation last year.
Ochai. 13th guy in the rotation last year.

Talking like these guys are clear cut amazing players lol. They could very well be out of the league next year too. I would not be surprised.

Olynk and Precious are close. Two very different players. This one is up to preference. Gary and Brown is a wash imo.

My OPiNION still stands.

Davion was 8th in minutes in SAC.
Ochai was 13th in mpg… if you count guys who played 4 and 6 total games  he was 10th in mpg when he was traded, playing less than a minute less than 8th.

You can have your opinions, but at least be factual.

Lots of time for them to start sucking, but through 3 games in which we are missing 4 rotation players, we are 6th currently in bench PPG at 43.0.

Obviously PPG is not the end all be all - but the bench has not been the problem (yet)

The only bench I want to see is Shead, Agbaji, Battle Mogbo and Olynyk. I think that Mogbo and Olynyk complement each other quite well, making Boucher a trade piece. Can the Raptors get two 2nd round picks for Boucher?
