I wish ant wasn't here so we can find out definitively if he's a bust in an expanded role. Would make decisions easier moving forward particularly if a pg is the BPA in a draft

Deni is such a pitbull. Dude goes to the rim so hard but also within control.

Why OKC don’t trade 11 and one of their many future FRP for him, I will never know. He is the archetype for a ‘4th best guy in a great team’.

Our gain tho.

GS offense looks so smooth.. ball movement and constant off ball screenings. This IMO the reason for the current score.

The problem is with guys like Deni\Scoot & Clingan, who is a great facilitator/passer from the post, is That you need shooters along the perimeter to complement them, of which outside of Grant, this team is severely lacking

Wow, butt kicking, where are those vets who are going to lead this team to the play in? Where is Simons? Where is Grant? Where is Ayton?

People bashing Scoot (elsewhere), but why is no one bashing Simons for his horrific play?

Simons is 6? 7? years older than Scoot, yet somehow, he gets a pass, while Scoit just gets blasted for every little thing? Who should we expect more from? Really?

What a shock, GS has shooters

lol, Calabro just said that the Blazers are still “developing” their shooting, I laughed out loud

Yeah, this still looks like the worst coached team in the league...

They really need to see if they can get rid of Simons, Ayton, and Grant, for some picks or something.

Portland's veteran big-3 of Simons-Ayton-Grant led the Blazers to a 35 point loss in the season opener, to last year's 10th seed; while making a combined 89M

great value

Quoting myself here.. the statement remained true at end of the game with 22 points and a minus 30 +\-.

I think the issue here is coaching. Player got talent, but you can't just tell him to go on court and do what you do best. You have to have a system.
Chauncey said in an interview he wants the players to play to their best (i.e Camara all court D).. but that just isn't enough IMO.
He needs to be more active on the sidelines, and actually in-game micro-manage for a little while.

Yeah. Billups is just a bad coach, all the way around, guy has no clue

Do you know what this team would be best served by? A young coach/college coach who actually put in a system and developed the players, getting rid of all the vets and just build from the bottom up, but POR management is too cheap to let him go, so we are stuck with this cluster

I still cannot believe, that Cronin & co witnessed the pathetic outside shooting of this team last year and said “yeah, we don’t need to address that?” Unbelievable.

Also, BTW, I am reading the threads on other forums and they are literally blasting Scoot in this loss? Like seriously, the back up PG is the issue with this team losing by 35? The guy who scored the most points? 22? He’s the reason why we lost? Utterly delusional

with 6 minutes left in the game, those 3 had taken 42 of Portland's 81 shots....and the Blazers were down by 25....leadership

This game was pretty much as predicted...

Blazers will be last (or close to it) in perimeter defense this year, teams that can get hot shooting the 3 will feast...kinda like that German team. Blazers also can't crash with 5 players, they need to send at least 1, probably 2 to avoid leak outs.

Scoot negative? He doesn't look like he has NBA PG feel DNA to me. Scoot positive? He limited turnovers.

I liked what I saw out of Deni...hopefully he'll be a blazer for a long time.

My main takeaways? Scoot/Simons looks just as bad this year as it did last year, and the Blazer PnR game is really, really bad--but that might be me looking through the lens of Lillard/Nurkic PnR which was actually pretty good.

It feels like the natural move a reasonable owner would have made is to fire Chauncey last year after he had clearly lost the team already. We kept him to maybe as a means to commit to the tank but dang sometimes it feels like he can't even develop talent

For different reasons of course but holding onto billups is comparable to the cowboys holding onto Mccarthy. Should've made a move at the end of last season but here we are one season past the expiration date giving it another go

Yes I am real & not ready to quit on Scoot yet, especially at age 20.

He is still very young for a PG, and I know I have said it before, but he’s getting zero help from the management of this team, the lack of shooting is just a critical flaw, and Cronin has not shown any inclination to want to solve that issue.

It is as I and several others have pointed out already, that the vets on this team (Ant\Grant\Ayton) are not “net positive” players, all they do is hamper any potential progress that the younger players could gain by playing as many minutes as possible, preferably together

I'm very much in the trade Grant and Simons camp. I'm disappointed that Grant wasn't traded in the recent window, noting that he's come off a couple of elite 3 Pt shooting seasons, in which he's a big risk of underperforming in this regards relative to the 40% mark he's set.

In other words, his trade value probably has more downside than upside.

Unfortunately, Simons and Grant are our best 3 Pt shooters, which isn't ideal from a team development perspective. Our long range shooting would suck without them.
