Cool. I can ignore baseball games until sometime in March.

So it's either Yanks vs Dodgers or another Subway series.
Never thought I'd be rooting for the Dodgers lol.

I really hope so and agreed.
Thank the Dodgers for building an entire roster of all stars to break our curse.

Family not releasing cause of death, but think he had cancer. He looked unrecognizable the past couple months. Was a great player and a real workhorse.
As with Teddy Higuera, don’t think the Dodgers ever knew his true age. He may have been 3 to 5 years older than reported.

How did MLB screw this up so bad? They could have owned the middle of this week, and instead they're starting on Friday when no one watches TV, and Saturday when they're head to head with college football.

They make good money, my guess is that within the constraints of their CBA/how they want the travel schedule to go, starting the World Series on Friday and running it through the following weekend must be best for them?
My guess is that they will "own the week" with games 3-5 and then have people watching game 6/7 on the following weekend if it gets that far. They must fear going up against the NFL the most with only one game directly fighting against it (Monday, game 3).
Starting mid-week and ending mid-week might do better, which they seem to do most years, but I wonder if the regular season schedule messes with it or something.
Also, I just remembered this - apparently Fox wanted to have lead-ins to/from college football on Friday/Saturday with their beefed up college football slates.

Re: 2024 ATL Thread - Fernando RIP
Looks like it had to be Tuesday or Friday. The NBA Finals start date has no flexibility.
That leads to the obvious question: Why is there such a long gap between the end of the two League Championship Series and the start of the World Series?
MLB did actually plan for this. When it released the postseason schedule in early August, it did allow for moving up the dates of the World Series if both LCS finished early.
But with a five-game ALCS and a six-game NLCS, these series did not finish quickly enough to trigger that schedule adjustment. If both league championship series had wrapped up by Saturday, Oct. 19 then the first game of the World Series would have been moved up to Tuesday, Oct. 22. In that scenario, the World Series would have run from Oct. 22 to Oct. 30.
So when the Mets forced a Game 6 in the NLCS, they also made sure that the World Series would start on Friday. If the NLCS had gone to seven games, it would have wrapped up on Monday, Oct. 21. If the ALCS had gone to seven games, it would have finished on Tuesday, Oct. 22.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

A walk off dinger in the world series has to be the greatest feeling possible.

Wish we had $162 million to drop on a Freddie Freeman.
Was one hell of a rocket though.

As close as we’re ever going to get to replicate the Kirk Gibson shot.
Kinda want Yanks to win, but what a game. MLB loving it…and I get it. System isn’t fair but glad to see MLB get some shine again. There is a little national momentum right now.

Rumor has it Judge struck out a few times...again.
We watched the tragedy unfold. We did as we were told, we bought and sold. It was the greatest show on Earth...but then it was over.
