Is Steve Kerr secretly on the Celtics payroll as a motivational coach?
I started writing a bunch of stuff here but decided to just present this with minimal commentary lol.
Steve Kerr when he has an All-star team at the Olympics: Can't play more than 9 or 10 guys. It's a math problem.

Olympic games are 8 minutes shorter. Olympic Basketball happens every 4 years and consists of a maximum of 6 games per team, so treating the games like an All Star game might not look great if it results in them actually losing a game.
In comparsion, this was 1 of 82 regular season games, Steph and Draymond are both at least 34 years old, they have multiple young players they want to develop on the roster and struggled the last few seasons with injuries.
So totally makes sense to spread out the playing time, especially against a team that is expected to be one of the worst in the league and you're winning with 30+ points.

Good reply.
He played 12 guys in the first half last night. So that's only 24 minutes. His math abilities seem to be evolving. I'm not even complaining it's just funny.

Warriors rotation will eventually be shortened. It's just that none of those players gave a reason to be buried on the bench starting from the 1st preseason. And, if the Olympic team beat other teams by like 35 pts, it would also have 12-man rotation.

If the Warriors get in a single elimination tourney, then we will see how deep the rotation is. Until then, its apples and oranges.

This was Game 1 of 82 in the regular season against what everyone knows is a bad Portland team. Can't compare that to a short tournament that has 40 minute games with much higher stakes.
I seriously doubt Kerr would play 12 guys in the same half of a playoff game.

Brian Geltzeiler: You see Mark Jackson getting a head coaching job as early as next year?
Adrian Wojnarowski: Not if people make calls on him. Not if an organization is doing their homework and knows all the things he brings with him.

Olympics is like being in the playoffs. I doubt that Kerr would be playing 12 guys in the playoffs if this team was to make it there.
If the Olympics was like a 15 game pre-tournament, then the playoffs, Kerr would also have had a 12 man rotation there.

I saw the box score earlier and it looked like GS had the game in the bag (as far as win probability) by halfway through the 2nd quarter. France and Serbia are legit teams. Portland... is not.
Do you think Kerr is going 12 deep all season long, even in tight games? Legit curious. I was just happy to see that the Pistons have 10 NBA players on their team this year.

Well, the first half in Olympic basketball is only 20 minutes

It's not like tatum didn't get minutes.
He did, and every time he did, he proceeded to brick everything.

It's a worthwhile topic. But all I'll say is Team USA won.
If Tatum played anything close to his performance on Tuesday, there's no question he plays more in Paris.
I have never seen him play so well as I did on opening night. I believe he's let all the pressure go. If he can continue that, the Cs will be scary.

For example, everybody got minutes on the Dream Team when they were beating Spain by 40.

I gotta say, this is hilarious. Others pointed out the math/situation stuff which is accurate, but man oh man Jason Tatum & Celtics fans must have had a king size eye roll on that quote. I do think Steve will tighten things up as the season goes on, especially when it gets close to the playoffs, but...

I think it was the "I couldn't justify" playing less than 12 Warrior that got me lol.
Pretty sure GSW comes to Boston in just under 2 weeks. Juicy.

I think the "justify" stuff might partly come from bonding with these guys over much longer periods (minus the new additions, who besides Kyle all were going to get big minutes). Moody/Looney/GPII are on the fringe and Steve has coached them for years. We'll see how he tightens things up as time goes on -- but in just 2 weeks, I expect him to bring a big rotation vs. the Celtics.
I always like my dubs to win, but I would at least be happy for Tatum if he does pop off and bury us. I know Jalen probably wants to as well. I expect the Celtics to come out swinging with a bit of a chip on their shoulder, hopefully Draymond doesn't get tossed in the 1st half and we can have a nice game
