Why isn't there more demand for Andrew Drummond?

Post#1 » by coolcono » Wed Oct 23, 2024 4:50 pm

Although the current league is build around speed and three point shooting, I feel like he fills his specific role perfectly. Why aren't more teams interested in handing him better contracts?

Limited impact even in his heyday. Not a defensive answer now. Not a high-quality offensive player.

Why WOULD there be demand for him?

Partly due to era, partly because of his motor imo. Dwight’s Orlando years were the last of that style player dominance.

Not really. That kind of player can still be very effective if they're worth it. the moreso if they are Dwight-like defenders and even better if they arent incompetent at the line, or turnover factories.

With Drummond, it's that he has no real skill outside of rebounding. And that presents limited utility. Dwight, particularly when he was healthy and not letting pride/ego dictate his play, would have thrived today.

I’m more saying that it hasn’t happened since Orlando Dwight, which was also about when Curry changed the league. Not saying it couldn’t happen with a freak-level player that we haven’t seen yet. I’ll admit that it didn’t seem like slashing, poor-outside shooting guards would be effective in this era, but Ja Morant has been a freak outlier.

I don't see him as a winning player... many other centers on the market I'd rather have. If you truly study basketball you'll find players like this, who have the talent and motor of a star, but can't seem to make it at that level. Drummond is one of them.

He openly admitted a couple weeks back he missed shots on purpose to pad rebound stats.

There's nothing wrong with the player or his talent, but mentally he is a loser, and lacks the drive/motor. He's a hall of fame talent who never matured.

What exactly does him playing achieve besides padding his own rebound averages?

Feels like this has been a yearly thread for the last 5-6 years. Probably 2-3 times a year either here or on the gb.
