You could look at it this way.

Play him now, he never gets rid of the bad habits and becomes 80% of what his ceiling is.

Try to get him to fix his bad habits before giving him real minutes to have a shot of him getting much closer to 100% of what his ceiling is.

The guy was known to have a questionable engine, didn't seem to box out or some of the simple team defensive helping during summer league. I did see that he got some easy scores because he was much bigger than everyone else although that won't be the case in the NBA.

Bam and butler looked completely fine in the new offense in the preseason, I think that’s being overblown. They need to be more involved and they need set ran for them damn near every play, PERIOD!!!!!

If anything I think a faster pace would help bam considering how quick and versatile he is compared to other centers and his added 3 ball

We offered him a 3 year contract, knowing that final year would likely be a scrub expiring. Not sure we want a 38 year old PF?

I look at the Celtics and how they rebuilt their team. They traded aging high priced stars (PP and KG) for draft assets. Their cupboard was flush after that. They ended up getting Jayson and Jaylen because of it.

Could the Heat have done something similar with Butler? Maybe get a deal done with Houston before Reed shook up the draft process? Maybe offload some other questionable pieces (Herro?) to improve their tank. Maybe get Flagg out of it?

Its all hypothetical, but its interesting to me how we couldve flipped the script and extended our window greatly and improved our financial situation.

If the Heat are looking at PJ, I wonder if its a locker room/practice thing. A Butler psyche stabilizer?

Everyone looked lost in the 2nd half. I think we will be watching a lot of growing pains as our team tries to establish a new offense and incorporate a bunch of players.

I believe so. Our best seasons came when Jimmy had someone who he respected and would bring that under dog energy like Crowder and PJ. Everybody else is too timid to really get in Butler’s face like that. Its kind of the reason why he cant be the sole main guy. Thats why the Dame situation hurts still because he wouldve brought that regular season grind while Butler coasted :banghead:

Tucker, Hyland, and Coffey for Duncan and J Rich works. Won’t have to deal with Duncan’s partial next year. Clippers would also eat 2.8 million allowing us some flexibility off the 2nd tax line.

That would free up cash and PT for some of our other guys. We are too deep at wing.

Youre right. Butler needs someone who can match his energy and help him stay centered.

Instead of Coffey i would probably want Kobe Brown instead. 6’7 young bully PF. Still works in the checker. Hyland, Brown, Tucker for Duncan, J Rich, and 2026 2nd.

Pass on tucker unless its part of a bigger expiring deal that moves herro or butler off the team. We will need about 25 million more in expirings to consider tucker.

Shake this chit up. Stop being so picky. The bright side is getting off Duncan’s partial or opted in 19 million. If the trade works out great if it’s doesn’t we tank and have 20 million extra in cap next year.
