Might be a bit ageist, but iffy on Tucker being more than an assistant coach. Rather play Keshad/Ware

Tucker would be a fantastic locker room guy and mentor. Probably still good for 15 dog minutes a night. I agree with Ware and Keshad but having Tucker to hound them should be a good thing.

Wait, you think Miami will go into the tax next year? Miami's just under the 2nd apron this year and projected to be around 40 mil over the tax next season. Miami needs to shed ~40 million just to get out of the tax next year which if Butler walked would give Miami 8-10 million to use for a free agent while the MLE should be around 13 mil.

Semantics man we have to get rid of Duncan’s 20 million regardless.

What does shedding money, even 30 million next year do for Miami other than stop the owner from paying the tax (which probably will be a priority next season)? Shedding money doesn't make the roster better; it makes it worse.

Re: 2024-25 Regular Season Thread Vol. 1
Next season with the roster we have right now, we are 190 million invested in contracts. Duncan, rozier and butler would still be on the roster assuming butler opts in. The following season, once most of those contracts expire, we are 92 million invested with Herro, Bam, JJJ and Ware still in the books. We can make that number turn be 59 million if we find a trade for Herro that brings back expirings.
That would open up potentially 2 max slots for the 26-27 offseason after the salary cap continues to go up.
So whatever deal we get from here till next season, we cant have any contracts that go beyond next season. We will take on anything that can get us picks but the contact expires this or next seasonz

sorry i disagree we need players that are willing to play ball and at least try to win. the heat doesnt need anymore locker room mascots. supposedly, the heat has kevin love for that,no?MettaWorldPanda wrote:Bishop45 wrote:Might be a bit ageist, but iffy on Tucker being more than an assistant coach. I think that is the plan. If something comes up that is too good to pass up Riley and Arison will pull the trigger. But, they're not going to make any moves to bring in a guy the caliber of ROzier whose contract extends pass next season so they have the cap space for 26-27.
They're also going to have to make a decision on Jovic that offseason. But, two more years should be enough time to help make a decision.

Kevin Love isn't a teammate that will look at a player in a timeout and say what was that ****. Miami absolutely needs an outspoken high effort player(which Hayward is not at this point), someone on the bench who cares about giving effort each night even if they're not playing much, Tucker is one of those guys.

Part of that Jovic decision will be based on if he's a starter long term and they may not know for sure because of not only Jovic's play but Ware's play in the next couple of seasons, Bam's a given, his front court running mate is not.

Re: 2024-25 Regular Season Thread Vol. 1
So, I finally decided to go back and look at that 1st game's 3rd quarter where Miami was outscored 39 to 18, Miami also got 19 shots compared to Orlando's 21 shots so not much of a difference there, Orlando just hit their shots at a much higher rate which Miami fans need to get use to with 3 negative defensive starters on the court with Butler and Bam.
Magic, from most shots to less (not everyone), they went to their main players, they seemed focused on getting the ball to Banchero.
Banchero 4-5 12 pts
F. Wagener 3-4 6 pts
Suggs 2-2 9 pts
M. Wagner 2-2 5 pts
Now for Miami in that 3rd quarter (8:37+ in time for each Rozier, Herro, Butler and Bam).
Rozier 2-6 6 pts
Herro 0-4 0 pts
Jaquez Jr 1-2 5 pts
Bam 1-2 4 pts
Jovic 0-2 0 pts
Butler 0-1 0 pts

I think there's a real possibility Banchero becomes a top 5 player. He's 6'10, can handle like a guard, and is incredible skilled. I think it was on the Miller/Haslem podcast a NBA player stated how big (tall and strong) in person.

If we look like we are out of it by midseason the smartest thing we could do is see if we could get any assets for Butler Rozier or Robinson
It will be time to start prepping for the 26 offseason that I have long talked about as the next window for this franchise
A non contending Heat team should be trying to acquire as many assets possible for 26 and beyond in terms of draft capital
Only players I see being a part of that window are Bam, Ware, and Jamie, it is possible that Pelle, Jovic, and Keshod could become part of that group as well. The idea is to get to that offseason with Bam and two max spots available to build a contender.

The issue with Butler for a team trading for him either has to commit to him at probably a 2 year extension or they're possibly just renting him for this season. I don't know if you're going to get all that much for him unless you're willing to take back a bad contract or 2 (to get the lower priced good young player or draft asset). I'm sure Miami could get something good for Robinson, maybe 2nds, maybe a 1st and Rozier, another upgrade for another team meaning taking on their lesser player (on a multi-year contract) and maybe some type of asset.
With Miami up against the 2nd apron, that would drop the number of decent trades they could do since they'd have to take most likely less money than they're sending out, they'd likely have to have a 3rd team in the trade and that team would have to be incentivized to take on salary.

Lol are we 3 years ago? PJ? Really?
No thank you.
What we do need to do is to find a home for Butler for the highest bidder.

Yea he's the real deal. Doesn't need his pg or coach to "set him up" either, one of those guys that can actually generate scoring on his own.

It’s a quick bandaid move to see if they can find the magic again. It’s worth a look. It’s completely low risk. If things continue to fall flat we start to tear it down. Talking about giving up Duncan and J Rich for crying out loud for expiring’s. Even if it’s getting rid of two bodies to give the young kids playing time why not? Or we just continue to do nothing and run it back. Maybe give Duncan another 5 year extension since he’s such a great trade chip lol
