Nah eff dem Pacers. The only bad matchup versus them is when we are missing 2,3 or 4 starters.

We can’t rely to heavily on drop coverage tho this isnt last years team. If we aren’t playing an ideal defensive system Pacers led the league (or close to it) in scoring last year.

Well then we'll just have to outgun them....we have the guns now.

That 2011 Miami Bosh, Bron Wade team started pretty rough relative to their talent lvel 1st 20 games. We have 4 of 5 new starters. The feeling out process usually takes some time.

Exactly.

So if a team with three Hall of famers(one in the discussion for the GOAT) and an Elite coach actually needed time to gel and build chemistry.........

.........How is it reasonable to say that a team without that type of absurd talent, elite coaching, or a player with Lebron's bball IQ could just burst out of the gates 10 and 0, crushing playoff teams, without needing time to build chemistry.

Only agenda-mongers are freaking out over the first games of the season. Like Brunson and Mikal and everyone with common sense has said, it will take time.

if we lose this game i'm not going to be too phased but if thibs has kat in that same drop coverage and the pacers are slinging 50+ uncontested 3s expecting og/bridges to put fires out all over the court then yeah i'm not gonna be happy

that said i'm not gonna call for his head or blame him for the team's struggles early on because i know how difficult it must be trying to implement an entirely new defensive scheme w/ new personnel on such a short notice but the changes need to be drastic on both ends and it will require a measure of boldness and inventiveness i'm not sure thibs is comfortable w/ nevermind capable of

this is no longer a thibs hustle team where he can run guys ragged because he has capable bench players he can lean on in the event of an emergency. if any of our starters go down, which they will, trying to fill the gaps in their absense isn't going to be as seamless as it has been in the past

That doesn't mean we might not have a good game here or there too. We absolutely could. But until the players acclimate to each other, the system and/or Thibs also continuing to tweak the system to his players best skill sets we may not see the high level consistency some of the unreasonable fan base wants from day 1.

In a nutshell

I'm confident by mid-season this team will look dangerous.

If not by mid season (the latest IMO) then there is either a failure in Thibs ability to come up with a better system than his preferred drop coverage or the move we made for KAT. I would believe it to be the former but I guess we will see.
