Per B Robb. Yeah Springer is done here

Stinks, cause we spent a decent second rounder to get him and he flashed some offense in the summer league but it just hasn’t translated to the main club. Just can’t run Brad/Joes philosophy out there with a guy like Springer that can’t be trusted to make open shots

When Joe was openly getting upset at him during preseason, you knew things were bad for him.

I think if money were equal, Lonnie would still be here and Springer might be gone

IMO, it's the frustration he may have at this point with him. He knows his NBA career is on the hot seat and he probably thinks he should be playing. Unfortunately the C's cap situation isn't in his favor. And honestly, the new cap situation for most NBA players isn't on their side. Lonnie Walker is a more valuable player than Jaden Springer and he is sitting home with no deal. It's gonna get harder and harder for guys to be journeymen in the league and get those career making contracts.

As for Jaden. Did he follow the program in the offseason? Did he make improvements in the offseason? Has he earned the trust of the staff? IMO, no to my last question. He rode the pine during a home game during ring night in which he won a ring. The only other player who suited up but didn't play was Rico, and Rico didn't win a ring. That was telling to me.

When Brad traded for him he said he checked him out before the 21' draft and I figure that Cassell had an input in the move because he was with him in Philly. It's on him now.

I'm an oldhead and I've worked long enough to see that there's always those 1 or 2 guys who the boss is tougher on or expects more from. IMO, that could be Springer this season. See how far you can push to see how they respond. Some crack and some stick with it and prove themselves. I wouldn't compare his situation with PP or Sam because they've been in the organization for a few years so they understand the expectations. I even think it wouldn't be fair to use XMan's situation because the KP injury may have played a role in that signing. Springer is fighting for his NBA career and if there's one guy who can either make or break him, it's gonna be Mazzulla.

Could be a feel good story come the offseason or he could just be another transaction in February.

I might buy that, if another NBA team had rushed to sign Walker after we signed him..and if Lonnie was already producing for his new team.

But that's not the case.

It's hard for me to take this Lonnie posts seriously when no team has yet to sign him. And he was a FA all offseason and all 30 teams declined to offer him a guaranteed contract.

Please trade this paper weight so we can sign Lonnie.

Look, multiple posters over the past few months have said that the most valuable thing we got in the Springer trade was actually Springer's contract - as a tradable asset. These rumors shouldn't be a surprise.

Clearly, the priority at the 2024 trade deadline was a big - he got Tillman - good trade.

During the first 3 drafts with Brad as POBO, Boston made 0 1st round picks, and exactly 1 2nd round pick each draft. So his blueprint was only drafting 1 guy each year...but in 2024, he ended up drafting both Scheierman and Watson, bucking that trend. Obviously, he wasn't going to draft 3 guys in the same year.

The 41st pick is not a valuable asset. It's basically a "nothing asset". It's a mid 2nd round pick. I could see if it was a pick in like the 31-35 or even 36 range, that's pretty valuable. But 41st pick is not valuable at all..especially in the 2024 draft which was a weaker draft class. And that is the pick we traded for Springer.

Again, Brad was never gonna use that pick. It would be very out of character to draft 3 guys in the same class (especially a weaker draft class) after he only drafted 1 guy in each of the first 3 draft classes as POBO.

So then the question becomes, what is he gonna get by trading that 2nd rounder? Well again, the 41st pick is not very valuable. at all. So the fact that he was able to get a guy who was only 21 yrs old, very young but already had 2.5 years of NBA experience and had a considerable amount of upside (G league finals MVP, former 1st round pick, very good athleticism, NBA body, borderline elite perimeter defender who had already locked up guys like Brunson, Luka, SGA, Trae, Steph, etc.)

And while their were questions about his offense, Springer was a legit scoring weapon in college, in high school, in summer league and in g league. You look at what most sixers fans had to say about him, they loved Springer and thought that the team should have given him more playing time. Their fans hated the trade:
https://975thefanatic.com/2024/02/08/the-jaden-springer-trade-is-way-worse-than-the-pat-bev-one/

You look around the league. at the time the trade went down, basically everyone said it was a good trade for Boston. Springer was a 1st round pick who was still perceived to be a 1st round talent - and we got him for a mid 2nd round pick. It was a low risk, high reward move.

Springer was a roll of the dice. But a calculated one. Brad figured that we could take a guy who was young with high upside and bring out the best in him. He figured that Springer could learn from Jrue and Derrick, he could continue to learn from Cassell (who coached him in Philly), plus learn from Mazzulla (a tough, gritty guard in college) plus we have a history of being able to develop/improve the shooting ability of our players so they figured perhaps we could work our magic again and turn Springer into a good shooter, especially since he was so young..

The plan was simple. Springer had about a 1/3 of the 23-24 season plus the entire 24-25 season left on his contract. So he had about 1 season and a third. He either hits and Brad looks like a genius and we have and awesome guard off our bench. Or he doesn't hit, and we trade him..and use that $4mil contract to get a decent player in return (the $4 mil contract can get us a better player in return than we could get if we just had a minimum $2 mil guy in that roster spot).

As for Jake Fischer's report today, all it says is that Brad put some feelers out there to a few teams. Gauge the interest in him across the league. Do some due diligence.

I mean, if Brad didn't do that, he wouldn't be doing his job. He was simply exploring options.. like all GM's do throughout the year.

Hal, appreciate you fighting this good fight.

I do sense he did not react well in that last preseason game. We'll see after his more focused stretch vs. Washington after he was serving his penance, what's to come. Is it possible they send him down to G-league again? Joe hasn't shown a want to incorporate another perimeter player into the rotation. Curious what happens when Jrue has a rest day (or injury).

I'm waiting for this as well. We really haven't seen much of Springer. The book is still out. If he's frustrated by lack of playing time, trade rumors, comparisons to Lonnie, and Joe riding him hard, then it could go south for him. In that case, there is still the possibility of trade, basically a mutually beneficial move: thanks for everything Jaden, enjoy the ring.

So far in the bench minutes he'd be getting, I don't see how much Springer adds. The team already has shooters and if Payton and Sam are bricking threes to get the record like they did at the end of the Knicks game, bringing in a bucket-getter like Walker would be the better move if available.\

But as a backup when White or Holiday are out, Springer's defense could be a real positive. His passing is already decent, he needs to work on that corner three and learn how to make the right reads if he's out there with starters.

When will we see it? Who knows, maybe we won't. Springer's been around for not even half a season, and his position is one of the toughest to learn. White struggled a bit at first (granted, under Udoka). I'd like to see how Springer does during a Holiday rest day. If he can stay on the floor in that role, even if only for occasional stints, he suddenly becomes a value.

It is very possible Brad told Walker to hang tight which is why he has not signed. Just seems like such an odd situation that Walker has not had any feelers.

Actually it’s pretty easy, since Springer has done nothing except fall down the depth chart this year

When was he actually even on the chart? So far I think we can argue that he's behind Davison, but it's very limited sample size. I'd like to see Jaden in a real game, with a training camp under his belt, and in a few meaningful minutes that's not just jacking up shots with 2 minutes left and a 20 point lead.

He had a full summer league, full training camp and full preseason. And he couldn’t even see the court in the blowout vs the Knicks. He’s behind Scheierman somehow who’s been nothing but god awful since being drafted. If he’s done anything in practice to deem him worthy of actual minutes that would be shocking at this point. If it means bringing in someone that can contribute like Brissett or Walker than send Springer packing already and be done with it

It's not necessarily that "he couldn't see the court", it's that Joe didn't play him. Could mean any number of things, one of which is that he really is the odd man out and not getting on the Joe beam. If true, yeah, maybe time to move on, but we don't know that for sure.

Scheierman. Get the ball and shoot it Rico. Nice he saw a few minutes, but it doesn't mean he is ahead of Springer.

We have Walsh *allegedly* in the Brissett role, and Walker is still on ice until Brad can reveal the master plan, which may involve Springer, or may not. Until then, I'd like to see Springer develop his role with the team.

Joe is basically running an 8 man rotation, may be 9 with Hauser, and with KP returning that's another offensive threat. So I see Springer as an extra strong defensive body to fill in for a missing wing, or to get an occasional defensive assignment to try to slow down a hot opponent. Seeing him in garbage time to join the 3pt happy club isn't important at this point.

Now Davison, it's more of a possibility that he moves into that deep backup role. Springer is bigger, but Davison has shown improvement to his game so far. He's had a couple years in the pipeline already. I'd like to see Springer more before he gets the hook.

IDK, he's better than he's shown so far, but it is what it is. Maybe he'll do better elsewhere.

I want to suggest that Jaden Springer is trending as the complete opposite of Brad Wanamaker.
As such, I have two potential nicknames for him:
1. "Anti-Solid"
2. Rekamanaw Darb

or, we can just stick with "The Guy We Wish Was Lonnie Walker", that's cool too

Well yes, hes on the last year of his rookie deal. Unfortunately while he’s on the roster, he’s not contributing in any meaningful way despite having an entire offseason to get acclimated here. In order to continue to justify him having a roster spot, he needs to be able to contribute something, otherwise he’s just dead weight.

Man, you really sound grumpy. Cheer up.

We're the heavy favorites to repeat as champions.

Give Springer a chance. We're only 3 games into the season. He's only played in 1 game so far and in that 1 game, he was the only guy on our team who did anything positive in garbage time - had an offensive rebound, showed the ability to create his own shot, draw a foul, get himself to the FT line..and made probably the best defensive play of the game with some impressive pressure D out on the perimeter, with a deflection and a block on the same play.

Springer is 9 for his last 18 from 3.

He'll either be a good player for us..or maybe he'll get traded or he'll leave as a FA next summer. Either way, our team is in great shape :)

Saying Springer has been bad isn’t grumpy, and I resent the implication. It’s not on me to give Springer a chance, it’s on Joe. And clearly Springer hasn’t earned that chance, because he’s fallen off the face of the earth on the depth chart. Brissett is sitting out there due to poor agent advice who was at least able to contribute to the club last year in some meaningful way. There’s just zero justification carrying Springer if he can’t hack it.
