3? 4? straight possessions to start the game w/ Grant\Ant dominating the ball together while the rest of the team stands around

Ayton taking free throw line jumpers instead of being in the post where he hasn’t advantage over Theis

Yuck

Clingan had a great run in the 1st half, 7 & 6 with 2 blocks good defense, just a major presence in the paint, great anticipation on an inbounds play that led to a turnover

Ayton had a decent run, again though, he is most effective when he is working down low on the paint and not shooting jumpers

Scoot had a decent run, had several drive\dish plays that other players could not finish

Avdija struggling again, I do not see the fit with him and Grant/Ant, Too much of his time on the floor spent standing around waiting for a pass and then trying to go 1v1.

He had a nice exchange\back cut with Camara that led to a bucket, that is him at his best. Not sure why Cronin traded for him, if they are not gonna utilize him and what he does best, and in a stand around the perimeter role when Ant\Grant\Ayton are in the game

Ant scoring well, still forces too many shots that he shouldn’t be taking though.

Credit where credit is due--solid win on both sides of the ball for the Blazers. Tonight they found more of a balance on pushing tempo vs. half-court--they were much more strategic about identifying defensive flaws and attacking those.

Camara is quickly turning into my favorite Blazer, but the whole team is showing a lot more poise than last year.

Deni, I'm not worried about. His shooting will come around eventually, but the Blazers hardly ever involve the SF position in plays so we're not seeing the best of his passing.

Grant in a C&S role is MUCH better than 2-3 dribbles and hit wild shots role.

Scoot's handle looks much tighter than it did last season. Team needs to involve him in more short roll actions. PnR extended isn't really worthwhile because he's not really a threat to shoot out of the pick and defenders know that.

Clingan needs to go up with two hands for rebounds in his area. You can tell that he's used to using his length to tap rebounds that are out of his area to himself. That's fine on it's own, but it carries over to rebounds in his area and players dislodge or get to those boards with two hands before he does. He'll get stronger and that will make a difference too.

He looks a little bit lost on offense, partially because his screens aren't that effective. He's not waiting long enough post-screen and the ball handler isn't hitting him shoulder to shoulder. But those things will get better in time. He's got surprising "go get it" burst on defense, but he's still learning how to deal with remaining vertical on players that get into his body. Pretty dang impressive for a 20 year old. Next offseason he needs a big man coach that will play the old Newell "dunk or it doesn't count" big man game with him all summer long.

One thing I've noticed about Scoot so far (though I missed today's game) is that he isn't having those constant 'catches the ball but it slips from his hand' or 'ball slips from his hand as he dribbles' moments. I was legitimately worried last year for a bit that he might have nerve damage in his hand or something that was causing loss of feeling or grip strength because of how much it would slip doing relatively normal stuff.

But it might've just been a concentration issue, because I haven't noticed it so far this year.

I get a good feeling about clingan making it in the league. Not sure we need to rush to trade ayton either necessarily as you can always use 2 centers in the NBA especially with 1 on a rookie deal. When ayton is up for a re up might be the time to deal so next year

It's funny 2 losses equals 7 pages of discussion one win by 22 equals 12 posts...weird

Sunday afternoon game?

Yes, Clingan looked really good in his minutes sans his P&R. Has not taken a 3 pointer - actually nothing outside of 3 feet. So, the pick and pop will help the P&R when he (and the team) get more comfortable with his shot.

Deni is just going to need time to learn to work with the team (and mostly start the games as a SG). But his presence seems to help Grant & Camara? I think? And having all three on the floor with Ayton/Clingan means the defense is ranked 16th vs. 23rd last year in a small sample size (and that seems to be fueling the offense?).

And they shot 40% from 3!

Lakers might budge off their no 2 FRP demand for JG if he keeps playing awesome and they keep getting off to their hot start.

To be fair early Sunday games always seem to have less engagement.

I dunno why folks want to lose right now. It would be best for the Blazers to go on a little win streak and have our veterans looking healthy and good and like their peak selves. Plenty of time late in the season to play the youngsters, rack up losses and tank for lottery position but at the moment having the league go "wow Portland might be better than we expected them to be" would be great for eventually moving our highest paid and oldest players.

If you want Ant/Grant/Ayton to be traded we should be rooting for them to put up big stats in wins right now! Show this "what have you done for me recently" league that they can be good players in the right situation.

We pretty clearly looked like the better team in both games. Happy we secured this one. Haters on standby

Also I love the focus on defense we seem to have at the moment. For how long have we been wishing for a trio of wing/forwards like Camara+Deni+Grant who can mix it up defensively. If only we had gotten that sort of talent around Lillard...

Camara is absolutely fantastic as a POA defender while doing lots of the little things offensively to keep him in play. Agree with zzaj that he is quickly becoming one of my favorite Blazers.
