In the end, this is what we want. Have options at backup PG and if Shead shows he is better thru the year...not just 1 game, you can move off Davion.
No need to do it early as keeping depth is a good thing as we are seeing. Keep them battling all year and let's see if either of their shooting improves.

We Missi-ed out. Sigh.
We now have Bruno Fernando to enjoy.
missi was in their cluster of 3 players they were considering at 19, wasn't told who the 3rd one was

Ridiculous possession. I just bought 905 tix for a couple of games and now I'm thinking I may not even see him down there. He's forcing Darko's hand.
How did you get tix!? It’s asking for a passcode.
I’d love to take the kids to a game. They complain too much to take them to an NBA so they don’t get to roll with me tomorrow lol

Shead is prob already my 2nd favourite player on the team after Scottie lol I just LOVE the energy and hustle he brings.
It’s obvious & easy to see he’s quicker gonna become a fan favourite. I think we all know he should be the first backup PG and will be it for the future.

Yeah. I would say he's the player that I find the most exciting/ interesting to watch. I just love players that play with that level of intensity on defense. Plus his athleticism is off the charts.
Scottie......I already kinda know what to expect. He hasn't really added anything new. I actually find RJ more fun to watch on offense.
Gradey and Battle have been fun to watch. So has Mogbo.
I am looking forward to Walter playing some.minutes. See what elements exist in his game that I have yet to notice.

* Props to the man, the myth, the legend......TZ.

Amazing that he's taken his time and on balance for his 3's and hitting them from the top too. You can see the work already translating. Davion Mitchell is already expendable.

I wouldn't say Mitchell is expandable, as Mitchell has been facing better competitions, and have more possessions devoted to Barnes (if not for fans, the coaches probably asked him to do that). Mitchell only has 16% usage, while Shead has 22%.
Furthermore, I think they will both play together off the bench, as we might need 2 ball handlers more often.

Shead leads the rookie class in total points so far. Not a great start for the 2024 class.

Shead vs Mitchell defensive battle
Opponent vs Shead: 14-27 (51.9%)
Opponent vs Mitchell: 13-25 (52.0%)
Guards vs Shead: 12-23 (52.2%)
Guards vs Mitchell: 8-17 (47.1%)
Mitchell has generally faced tougher competition as most of his minutes have come against Edwards, Maxey and D Mitchell.

I never understand why on this raptors board it always has to be one or the other. Davion has the backup job now and he will not block shead. If Shead proves to be better he will get more time period. Having two ball hawks backing up IQ is perfect. We are not a team that can have “expendable” depth.
My bet Mitchell gets a 2+1 team option or just a straight up 3 year deal after this year

I was just about to say this lol. This board always has to run to “this guy can be traded now” just bc someone else playing the same position is also playing well lol. I thought we need depth. Now we have two guys playing better than expected or as expected and you want to get rid of them. Both Shead and Davion can come off the bench and play together until we are 100% healthy. And I’m confident if Davion is having a bad game Darko won’t have a problem with giving Shead a look once we’re healthy and Shead becomes the 3rd stringer.

It's like giving Boucher minutes when can give more to Mogbo.
Once IQ comes back I don't want Shead to get 3rd string minutes. It might be like Davion is the Delon Wright and Shead is the FVV with better playmaking.

That's a fair way to look at it, but it does assume that the best path for Shead's development is to immediately play NBA minutes. This isn't always true for young players. FVV as an example played a decent amount of his rookie year in the 905. I don't think it is a given that he would have had a better career if he played more NBA minutes in that first season.
There is also something to be said for maintaining Mitchell's value ahead of the deadline if we do decide to move him.
That said, I do think Shead is demonstrating he is a mature player, so perhaps it would be best to get him back PG minutes straight away.

Shead is not your typical rookie. He's 22, 4yr college PG, from a top college program, and can handle backup role already. Most are fine with him being out of rotation for most of this season while they showcase Mitchell. But if they extend Mitchell, that's a clear roadblock to Shead's role until what? 3rd season? 4th? He'd be right to want out and I wouldn't blame him.
This season is mostly about seeing which of these supporting players can have roles in the near future.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

What has Mitchell done to deserve any type of long term deal? This is not a "Shead should 100% be the backup" post but a "how is Mitchell getting anything more than 1 year min at this point?" comment.
