Atlanta & Chicago: Nance Jr and Zeller for Carter and Duarte

Post#1 » by drosestruts » Mon Oct 28, 2024 9:29 pm

Atlanta in: Jevon Carter and Chris Duarte

Chicago in: Larry Nance Jr and Cody Zeller

Very early on in the season but so far Atlanta has not played either Nance or Zeller and with plenty of depth at the 4/5 Barlow, Capela, Gueye, Johnson, Okongwu, Risacher, Roddy - it's not clear they ever intend to, so they move them for a guard and wing in Carter and Duarte. Both can bring more shooting to an explosive Atlanta offense. Young is prone to missing a handful of games every year so having an extra point guard in Carter could be handy.

For Chicago, it's been years now they've lacked size and depth with size. Nance and Zeller bring both to the table and I could see Nance fitting in well in Chicago. Understand many Bulls fans won't agree with a trade for two veteran players in a year they're hoping to be bad enough to keep their pick - so I'll additionally highlight the financial benefit of both incoming deals being expiring.

Bulls eat a little more money this year (which in turn creates a little more wiggle room below the tax for Atlanta if they were to make a future move).

Not earth-shattering, more of a balancing out of depth for each team with some financial incentives to - Atlanta saving money and creating more room under the tax this season, Chicago getting off the last year of Carter's deal next summer.

I like the balance of this, both teams get guys they can use a little even if neither is hitting a homerun w/it.

Bulls get better and Hawks get worse. As a Spurs fan, I approve of this trade :D

Zeller is not with the team, and Hawks have been attempting to buy him out since he was traded. He is trade eligible Dec 15th.
Okongwo is recovering from an injured toe and won't be playing back to backs, so Nance will most likely play tonight.
Capela looks like a shell of himself in the early going
Hawks have struggled with rebounding.
So I say all that to say, Hawks need Nance at the moment, so Hawks pass.

Good hear the ATL perspective.
Even this Bulls fan sees this as a fleecing of the Hawks. Carter are 6 feet could but shouldn't be playing next to Trae, Duarte though he is shooting 100% from 3, OK 1 for 1, would have to shake off some cobwebs if there's a place for him.

Nance could easily be the backup 4, not much time for Zeller behind Smith. It also probably pushes Craig and Terry to the last two seats of the second row of the bench. Now the situation for both changes dramatically if the Bulls found a trading partner for Vucevic or to an extent Lavine. Both back up Smith and Craig might as well pack his bags depending on who they got back.

No question the Bulls do this, the Hawks, I dunno

Could see this if ATL has another deal lined up that they need to clear some more room under the tax for. Otherwise, I think this deal is so minimal that it isn't worth adding Carter's deal to the books next year. Adding Carter to the books makes math tricky for them on using the full MLE next year and he's not worth that.

I like it. Not sure the Hawks need Carter, but I kinda like Duarte for their bench, Carter is very solid, and this could better balance both teams.
