Can Hukporti be the backup C we need?

Post#1 » by Hatrick Ewing » Tue Oct 29, 2024 2:58 am

Runs the floor super well. Doesn't seem like they know how to find him in the PnR yet but if they get used to that he could really give them a lot of what Mitch does.

Thibs has defninitely surprised me pleasantly with giving him. shot for the backup C minute3s.

I'd much rather a 5 who is too aggressive at first in driving to the basket that one who stands around and never does anything.

Both Hukporti and Jericho Sims were the 58th pick in their respective draft classes

Hukporti is 4 years younger and is already a better rebounder and shotblocker than Sims

I think the Knicks are quietly transitioning from Sims to Hukporti

The main thing I wonder is whether the Knicks wants to see how Mitch and KAT look together before making a decision to move Mitch

Hukporti is only a back-up at this point, but can exceed expectations if he becomes reliable for 12-16 mpg

Thibs went politically correct saying he wanted a look. Huk did his thing. He should have proven he is past Sims playing against Twin Towers.

Huk looks like a C, while Sims looks like a non-shooting, rebounding 4. Just what we need

I didn't know he had hops like this, all his highlights and summer league made him look like Kevon Looney.

I mean, at a very elemental level he looks like he can play in the NBA, which Sims has never shown, to my eye.

I think he could make some major improvements quickly, just due to getting comfortable really.

I did not know this team had a starting center that was healthy.

I do think it's encouraging thibs is already giving him a chance. He's a big body who isn't totally clueless out there. Sims just hasn't figured it out.

I know we lost the lead when huk and cam came in. He seemed to struggle a lil during that stretch. But cam also shot us out it. He was also playing against 2 legit bigs. And that's a lot to expect of a late 2nd round pick in his 3rd game of the year.

I'm all for huk taking Sims mins. I see no upside in Sims and he is always going to give us negative mins. So even for the sake of hope he should be playing over Sims.

I like his footwork and awareness a lot. I think he's better than Sims now tbh

There will be growing pains, but I think he needs to play.

That O-foul was such BS. Huk was in the damn air. You have to let **** like this stand.

Spoiler:
That said, he might have traveled before the dribble.

Sims is gym muscle and Huk is legit strong. Sims did more than anyone could have expected of him but I think we have a real steal here.
