Mazzulla had this quote I saw recently saying that the Celtics are not just one of the best (best run) organizations in basketball, but among the best organizations of any type in the world.

The more I've thought about that, the more I think that with this current iteration here that's got some real truth to it.

Let's see:
-- They take "servant leadership" to an extreme unthinkable in most kinds of business.
-- There's an outstandingly clear shared vision.
-- Many people surely love their jobs.

Yeah, there's an argument to be made. :D
Banned temporarily for, among other sins, being "Extremely Deviant".

For somebody who’s from here, what does Banner 18 mean?

What does it mean? Nothing now. It will 20 years from now. It will down the line. But if you were just happy with that one, you should have quit. You should have retired. Sometimes when people ask me about that, they think I forget. I’m not forgetting that one. I’m just not attached to it. And being attached to too much a success or failure, if you stay attached to a result or an experience for too long, it’s going to hinder the opportunity to take advantage of the next experience or opportunity that you have. I’m not downgrading it. I’m not saying that it’s not important. What I’m saying is I’m not attached to it because we have more work to do.

"Pressure is a worldly, man-made thing that people say to create anxiety. You’re either going to do it or you’re not. It’s just that simple."

I like the idea of 5 on 4 - that really enlivens hockey and would be insanely interesting in basketball... and fighting, yeah, the players are definitely much softer these days, but you'd worry that someone might get killed...

Boxing helmets being thrown in from the benches seems too forced...

We'll probably hear about a new extension soon. He's signed through next season in his current extension IINM.

NGL, easier to appreciate this after we've already won a title.

Not a Celtics fan but I only just found out that Mazzulla is friends with Josh Waitzkin and spent time with him in Costa Rica after the Miami series loss and I thought that was super cool. If you like chess you might know about Josh, his childhood was chronicled in the movie Searching For Bobby Fischer where he was a standout junior player, he also transitioned into martial arts and won the Push Hands Tai Chi world championship a couple times. I've read his book and gone through his lessons on Chessmaster software back in the day which ended up being a lot more about philosophy than chess. awesome stuff if you enjoy the philosophy behind competition and performance under pressure

My favorite line in Searching For Bobby Fischer was when his dad said "he is better at this than I have ever been at anything in my life, he's better at this than you'll ever be at anything". Great movie.

‪Jack Simone:

Joe Mazzulla told Charles Lee that they wouldn’t be friends this year:

“I told Charles when he left, like, I'm not talking to you during the season... You’re an enemy… He came into the locker room. Breached NBA rules, and came into the assistant coaches locker room and forced me to give him a hug.”

Joe Mazzulla on the hug Charles Lee forced him to give him:

“That could easily be a psychological tell that knocks you off your game competitively.”

I remember the older days when teams literally hated each other... heck, even Danny bit Tree Rollins thumb. Yeah, Danny!

Sure Joe Mazzulla won a championship in his second year as head coach and he has the best winning percentage of all time by a mile (he's at 75% and Phil Jackson is second at 70%) but his greatest accomplishment is completely silencing this thread.

The Celtics are 8-3 in clutch games this season. 3rd best mark behind Cavs (7-2) and Suns (7-2).

They are 53-28 (65.43%) in the Mazzulla era, 53-67 (44.17%) in the three seasons prior to Joe. They went undefeated in the clutch (6-0) in their recent title run.
