I feel like none of these stats take into context illegal streaming which a lot of fans do.

Tv as a whole is just a dying platform, with streaming, illegal streaming all constructs to take into account.

Also, fans are just fatigued of watching the same 3-4 teams weekly, and talked about on mainstream outlets. The ESPN model of talking only about certain teams in all leagues has become beyond played out and boring. Although once it mightve been a ratings winner, there's only so many times you can talk about the same thing.

NBA really needs a flex game system like the nfl. No one is tuning into a curry less warriors or Philly without embiid.

In the United States? Not true, it’s actually at a low point popularity wise.

The NBA intelligently found a partner in China and they are now subsidized by them. Money will never be an issue as long as they are a partner.

Normally these threads are proven to be fake news. But even so, they already have their new deals locked in

You have no idea how many people who are longtime watchers of the nba are sick of the LeBron era. And then you turn on espn and fs1 and all they do is attach LeBron to an obvious more universally liked athlete like Messi or Mahomes.

a second round pick that likely won't play turned them off the league?
I get it that the drafting was problematic, but it's so low stakes. Most 55th picks never end up playing a single game.

people are sick of lebron.. thats the issue

22 years is enough

the nba has to move on or they will drown

caitlin clark is arguably more talked about on social media then lebron right. dont care how many all-star votes or twitter followers someone has with the advent of ai people can pay ai companies to use bot accounts

Mahomes is universally liked? I don’t know anybody who likes or cares about him lol

He must be judging by the amount of commercials he does. Lamar Jackson barely gets any despite winning two MVP's and being the best player in football right now.

I have a theory on that but don't want to get political so I won't post it but as a raven fan it's annoying.

lamar jackson ruffles the medias feathers because he was smart enough to learn from how certain agents can take bribes to screw over their clients smh. Look at jameis winstons uber driver story and look up the agent( who has now been since fired) who called and told the female uber driver that winston was wasted and she could get a nice payout of an allegation.. Lamar was smart to hire his mother so that avenue for certain agents did not work. Thats the real reason they compare lamar jackson to james harden. Harden was also represented by his mother and rob pilenka for a while, which is what allowed the media to slander his name for so long because his mom Monja Willis had no connections to get into the power club of nba agents.. being a woman certainly didnt help

Brutal game but ratings for the overall season are never going to depend on the 11th seed playing a team missing its two most famous players and is awful without them. Boring draw no matter what.

Also in case you don't know there are fewer FTs per game these days than in any other period in NBA history, last season was lowest of all time and nearly 50% less than in the 80s. Can't be the cause of any drop off in ratings.

This… which is why Adam silver started going into European and basketball without borders overdrive. They also greatly loosened the rules and severely diminished the physicality of todays game by design which has allowed players who rely heavily on skill to have an advantage over supreme athletes because any and every attempt to play defense is a foul

I'm sure there's 10 legitimate reasons why this could be, but I know personally I'm just not very interested in how the game is played anymore. Plenty of people like it, but it's not for me. Been way more into the NHL. I'm just not a fan of 3 point spamming. I watched the game tonight while at the gym on the treadmill, Pacers Celtics. The Celtics are a particularly bad watch with that style of play, but even at the end of regulation... Haliburton has time to get a shot with the game tied and what does he do? Grossly contested awkward 3. Game went to overtime and I was still pretty uninterested. I just prefer contact sports at this point.

Do people really not understand the major reason why?

Last year's world series didn't get over 10M until the clinching 5 game...Game 4 just did over 16M and the lowest was 13.7M for game 2. If you don't think a number of the people who passed on the world series last year weren't watching the NBA, I can't help you.

When the world series ends, the numbers will go back up.

The real question is whether this year's NBA Finals will outdraw the WS that just ended. Now of course the Yankees/Dodgers is the biggest matchup that is possible in the MLB, and the equivalent of Knicks vs Lakers. Still though, it's unlikely that the NBA Finals will have more viewership than the WS just did.

The changes that the MLB has made to speed up the game has not turned off purists more than it has brought people back in. It will be interesting to see if NBA can become the clear #2 sport in the USA.

My watching is usually on-demand (League Pass) from Europe so I use Wikihoops site to kind of gauge the level of games without spoilers. They have a good voting system going on which makes it easy to see the top games. Thing is, many days there's 0 games worth watching with that logic. Typically there's like one stand-out game, especially weekends.

How do you measure that it is a low point? Attendance wise, the league is doing fantastic. TV is doing ok, but NBA seems to be thriving on social platforms.

- The Celtics are putting up over 50 3pt attempts per game, and certainly other teams will be following suit.
- One of the most electrifying players in the league, Anthony Edwards, has doubled his 3pt attempts this season

--> More threes = booriiingg. No wonder the viewership is down.

Cannot wait for all this love for analytics lead to a game where both teams only shoot threes, making it the ultimate three-point competition and the absolute low for the league. It can really happen!
